fixed 4.6.8.2 on RBR 850

So i went blindly into the FW update lime most others and ended up with no access to http.

After about 6 hours or trial and error and stepping through the whole process i figured out wha tthe proiblem is :

openvpn enabled on port 443.

Basically as soon as you enable it on port 443, the http admin site, might work for a minute, and then stops. Reboots dont fix it.

Essentially i went through the re-config manually and now have open vpn running on a non-std port.

When openvpn listens on 443, it is suposed to reroute traffic to httpd that is actually listening on a separate port ( that is how openvpn usually works). But apparently this update messed that up.

Anyhow, for all of the peopel on RBR that have seen the problem or that are about to upgrade: change port on openvpn to other than 443, disable it , then upgrade.

should work fine.

After, make sure you backup your config at every step to save yourself trouble.  Enable VPN, then if you want to prove my theory, move it to 443. I guarantee you it wont work. Tried 5 times form a clean config.

OpenVPN is not a web service.  (at least on the older model Orbi) OpenVPN host is configured to listen for connections on ports 12973 and 12974.

Re: fixed 4.6.8.2 on RBR 850

well i had moved mine to 443. it always worked and openvpn actually listens and  redirects https traffic as a proxy to the httpd, and processes vpn traffic itself.

It does not work properly on 4.6.8.2 and is the reason 4.6.8.2 breaks admin access for others.

Though I don't use Orbi VPN, Iv'e not have or seen any problems accessing the RBRs web page on v.2 FW. For those that did see this issue, a full on factory reset and setup from scratch help those re-gain access to the RBRs web page after theres were auto updated.

I don't believe the port your using would be a valid port for any VPN use. Something to ask NG support about and see.
