Orbi 970 & Xfinity Gateway
I have the ethernet hooked up to the Mesh Router and then running into my computer, but my speeds actually dropped a bit.
When I was running ethernet from the gateway unto the computer my average speeds were:
1200 MBPS Download
35 MBPS Upload
Now with 970 it's dropped to:
950 MBPS Download
26 MBPS Upload
My speeds for WiFi are better, but was wondering if there's a better setup than just using the Xfinity Gateway.
My internet plan is 1200 down / 38 Up just for reference.

Re: Orbi 970 & Xfinity Gateway
Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
Try option #2 first...

Re: Orbi 970 & Xfinity Gateway
Will it only show devices that are directly connected to the Orbis Wi-Fi and not the other devices that are on the bridge from Xfinity?
How could I check to see if the bridge is working correctly on my end?

If it's actually in bridge mode, the RBR will have a public IP address that should look like ##.##.###.### and should not see a 192.x or 172 or a 10 IP address on the RBRs web page under Advanced Tab/Advanced/Internet secion.

Re: Orbi 970 & Xfinity Gateway
Hi,
I have xfinity, some advice from me
NOTE: MY findings and opinion only!!
1. Never use cable supplied routers / modems
2. go to step one
LOL
I will (personally) never use rented devices from cable companies, I use the Netgear CM2000 cable modem and it is rock stable on xfinity, I have the..
1200 MBPS Download
25 MBPS Upload
They may have switched me to your upload speeds but I never see that so far...
Anyway when you rent routers / cable modems from cable companies they tend to have lots more control over your internet,
meaning..... they tend to limit speeds during high usage more , tend to have more little problems, poor wifi, etc....
hope this helps, I really find using your own cable modem and routers is best, at least for me.
