The "S" explanation makes sense. Because when I select the black option the little part number changes to "RBE971SB".

I was wondering if it is a good idea to try to purchase a more recently manufactured router vs one that has been sitting on the shelves for a while? And possibly any good leads to where they have high turnover? (I was tempted to go to MicroCenter today which is about 30 mi away but sadly I see no $100 off sale to price match, so I got lazy)...

Find someting that you can get into. I don't feel the HW is an issue. NG has generally had good stable hardware for there products. It's the SW and FW thats been a rollar coaster ride. 🙄
