Hi,
Advanced user here, that has tinkered with OpenWRT, Voxel and DD-WRT builds on R7800, R9000 in the past.
Obtained an RBE971 today, and was surprised how little configurability the RBE971 has, which both R7800 and R9000 have had historically.
Question: When will the RBE971 menus reach feature-parity [1] with what R7800 and R9000 offered back in 2016? And if they won't ever, then I'd like to know that aswell.

Never. Orbi systems introduced an additional WiFi SSID ("IoT") that can enable/disable the 2.4 and 5G WiFi frequencies. The primary WiFi SSID is always on and broadcast. The guest SSID can be on or off, but if it is on then both 2.4G and 5G frequencies are always on. Primary and guest WiFi SSIDs are always the same on both 2.4G and 5G frequencies. (and 6G for the 970 product).
Daisy Chain is always enabled. If a satellite decides connecting to another satellite rather than the router gives better performance, it does so.

Orbi MESH systems are different from stand alone non MESH routers. Due to the complexity of the MESH systems, NG is trying to keep the features and system as easy for users as possible with the features they deem configurable for users like the IoT and Guest Network. Older Orbi systems originally there was no IoT network and with Smart Connect enabled, users had many issues with 2.4Ghz only IoT devices due to bad design and implementation on the IoT Mfr behalf. So NG implemented there own solution to help IoT users get IoT devices connected to Orbi MESH systems. Introduced in v7 FW for the 750, 850 and 960 series systems. Now also seen in Orbi BE series systems as well. Older legacy Orbi systems will not be seeing this feature as those have entered into EoL status.
