WAN port needs to use VLAN 35 for all traffic going in and out.
The menu for configuring VLAN tagging is a little unclear, I only need to tag traffic going in/out from the WAN connection, but I can't see if that's the default function or if it's adding that taggin...

The home hub has been disconnected for a while now. I've used it successfully with another router, but keep trying to get this system to work based on the promised awesomeness. Lol.
Basically there's a fiber to lan interface that connects via ethernet to the wan port and the router connects/logs-in via PPPoE. (This was broken at first with these units as well, but thankfully they fixed it)

Thanks. Very clear. Can you please describe more about what happens when the 971 router WAN port is connected to the fiber unit and the PPPoE credentials are used to log in? i.e.
- Does the Orbi report that is "has internet"?
- Are any devices able to reach the internet?
- The initial post mentioned issues when roaming between Orbi units. Does it work normally except for that?
- lkroekerOct 23, 2024AspirantEverything seems to work normally, except Wi-Fi devices keep dropping connection randomly, failing to connect (seems like they don't get DHCP every time) or roaming takes a long time to reconnect.
I've tested it with a streaming internet radio source and when I walk around the house sometimes it cuts out for a full 30s or more before it starts playing again.
I've been trying to adjust basically every setting (that's available) to adjust on the system to see if it'll fix it. I wish there was a 20MHz limiter for the 2.4GHz band! Nothing seems to help.
It wasn't doing it as often when I had only a few wifi devices connected and the system was in AP mode (a different router was connected to PPPoE & doing vLAN tagging - it was also hosting all the Wi-Fi IoT devices). When I switched it back to being the primary routing system, with the PPPoE connection and vLAN tagging it started acting up a LOT more (pretty much constantly).
I've got about 45 client devices on the network, about 30 are wireless clients and most are IOT devices (connecting via the IoT network).
I've been tinkering with it since the beta, and haven't got it sorted out. I keep testing when new firmware comes out, but it hasn't helped yet. There are other threads that mention similar behaviour with newer iPhones, so it might have nothing to do with the vlan stuff, I was just trying to figure out if I've got it configured correctly.- FURRYe38Oct 23, 2024Guru - Experienced User
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended. How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.
https://kb.netgear.com/31029/Where-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite 🛰oes this happen with the RBS turned OFF?
Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices?
What channel configurations are currently set on the router?Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Be sure to disable any MAC Address randomizers on phones and pads while at home:

The internet connection works 100% fine for wired clients as far as I can tell - I haven't found/noticed any issues with wired clients. Also works perfectly fine with my old router system (Asus RT-AC86U).
The main unit and two satellites. Brick/wood frame home. About 2500sq.ft, but it's a double or side split, meaning there's three floors of house. I can do up a diagram later when I'm home. I recently tried wiring all the satellites and if anything it seems to have made the problem worse. The satellites are needed for full coverage, as there are some dead zones without them.
Coverage from the base unit doesn't reach to the problem areas so it isn't a good test. Some clients have a really tough time connecting at all.
Channels are 11 & 40.
Mac addresses aren't obfuscated and most IPs are static from the DHCP server.
