Constantly dropping wifi -- CBR40 at 2.1.4.6_1.0.8 on Xfinity

As subject. I work in enterprise IT but haven't had to troubleshoot a home network in years. Just installed the CBR40 today. Wifi seems very flaky, but of course it might not be the wifi.

Multiple devices -- laptops, desktops, home automation widgets, mobile devices, etc. VPNs on laptops and desktops go in and out at the same time.

Talk to me in techspeak. 🙂 Where do I start, and what information would be most useful in troubleshooting?

TIA!

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.

Any other wifi neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Disable MIMO, Daisy Chain and IPv6 on the router to test.

How big is your home? SqFt?

Distances between the modem./router and satellite? 30feet is a good start. Nothing too close.

Is wired connections thru the modem/router ok?

Might set your system up like this:

As it turns out, you CAN use the Orbi app to activate a CBR40 with your service provider...and the service provider doesn't even have to do anything!

This was the source of my problems.

Xfinity's equipment was treating my router as an unauthorized device because I'd previously had an Xfinity modem. After CBR40 activation, I should have been presented with a "Contact Xfinity to get your new device authorized" web page, but somehow I wasn't. 😄 Once I called them they removed the old config, authorized my device by S/N and MAC, and the mysterious signal issues went away.

So far so good...

Yes you can activate thru the Orbi app, also depends on ISPs and there activation walled garden configurations. Mine, I still had to call in as there walled garden doesn't work. However on the phone with them, walking thru the app, it does work.

Glad its working now. Enjoy.
