Drawbacks of combining ORBI AC2200 Cable Modem with my Orbi RBS50 AC3000 satellite
I have the original RBK50 Orbi (consisting of RBS50 satellite and RBR50 router), which is an AC3000 system I bought last year.
This week I bought the (CBK40) Orbi cable modem router (CBR40) w/ satellite (RBS20) because I thought it might be better to have a unified Orbi system. I went ahead and set up the cable modem, and was even able to use my old RBS50 satellite with the new cable modem router. It seems to be working ok.
But I just realized that the Orbi cable modem router is an AC2200 system and my old RBS50 satellite is AC3000. I am wondering if the RBS50 satellite is not being used to its full potential since the orbi cable modem router is AC2200.

It would not. The 50 series has a max connetion rate at 1700Mb, while the 40 series have a max connection rate at 866Mb.

Re: Drawbacks of combining ORBI AC2200 Cable Modem with my Orbi RBS50 AC3000 satellite
In wireless systems, the slowest link generally sets the datarate the devices will see. So the AC2200 is the system maximum; but two wireless devices connected to the AC3000 AP might be able to use the higher bandwith if allowed to communicate directly (AP isolation disabled).
Like having a 10GbE switch in one zone, and a 1GbE switch in another zone, both connected: pairs on the 1GbE switch can talk at 1G, but pairs on the 10GbE switch can talk 10G. Any communications between zones is also limited to the slower speed.
