Re: New - CBR750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.8 Released

Comcast already had the update in it stream when I checked. Early results look good. The speed test in the App and Web GUI both work now. Wireless speed seems better.  Looks like it fixed most of the issues. Time will tell.

Just sad it took three months and a lot of pressure from users to get this pushed out. Thanks to those who called and recorded issues with Netgear and thanks to Furrye38 for keeping this in front of them.

Re: New - CBR750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.8 Released

My CBR750 updated automatically, and this firmware is NOT GOOD.

Most of my devices do not connect, both wifi and ethernet.

I had this trouble previously on the V4.6.3.6 update and had to differ to a older version - very annoying

What does this happen?

And what is the long term fix???

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch.

Re: New - CBR750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.8 Released

I did not try that.

I reinstalled a older verion FW.

It automatically updated the FW back to 4.6.5.8 through the night and it's working perfectly.

All devices are connected OK, Wifi and ethernet.

Thanks

Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Re: New - CBR750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.8 Released

Here we are again!

(I did not back up when it was work - I honestly did not want to touch it)

I had a power outage - from that it defaluted to how it behaved orginally with FW update, most of my devices do not connect, both wifi and ethernet.

Very frustrating, how can it work intermitently. The devices that connect to it are total random and change when rebooted.

For now I have to defer back to a older FW.

It's very obvious that this is a FW issue.

I have no confidence that a full reset will address the issue as it has worked with 4.6.5.8 and works fine on older FW. I have 34 devices connected which would take long time for me to reconnect all of them and very well will not address the issue. Unless someone can fill with me confidence, where is has worked for you on this exact issue.

NG need to adress this - it's in multuple forums and threads, a known issue.

I love the CBR750, it's been great, fast and reliable until FW update V4.6.3.6 came about and was forced and 4.6.5.8 is behaving exactly the same.

Hard to beleive you buy a premium device and have very little control over it. Even on a iPhone you can stop auto updates.

Re: New - CBR750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.8 Released

I also was very frustrated with the V4.6.3.6 but never had a issue with devices not connecting. Version 4.6.5.8 solved most of my issues which were wi-fi speed and satellite related. The satellite still does not connect with many of my devices but the CBR750 does and it actually covers most of my house.

I was frustrated enough to go out shopping for a new modem/router.

I decided I would try out the new Arris G36 modem router. The web interface is so slow it is almost impossible to work with. The Arris app would not work at all with a Iphone on IOS 15. Speed and wi-fi coverage were good but not any better then the CBR 750.

I also tried the Asus CMAX 6000. It was very stable and the web interface worked well, but was very limited in features. There is no phone App. The problem with the ASUS was wi-fi coverage was very bad.

I hooked back up the Orbi CBK752 system untill something better comes along.

Have you tired disabling AX mode on 2.4Ghz and set CTS to 2347 and set 40Mhz only on the CBR?

Wondering if rolling back the RBS FW to prior v7 version would change the RBS behavior...

Re: New - CBR750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.8 Released

Thanks FURRYe38 I might give those suggestions a try.

As noted above I have been trying out some different modem/router combinations. I have about 37 devices and just want something with good speed that is stable.

Yesterday I tried out a Motorola MG8702.

First problem was Xfinity would not auto activate the Motorola through the IOS App. It told me to text them and then they called me back?

Strange because the others I tested would auto activate?

The Motorola would not stay online more than a few minutes even with a very light load of two devices, Iphone and imac.

I messed with it for about 4 hours before giving up and reactivating the CBR 750.

The overseas technical l support person could not reactivate the CBR 750 after trying for 40+ minutes. She instead set up a technician visit for Tuesday???

This had me very frustrated so I decided to call back. The second technician had it up and running in less than 5 minutes by sending an activation signal. I had asked the first technican to send the activation signal 4 different times during out conversation. Apparently she never did.

This makes me wonder if the Motorola was never activated correctly causing the constant reboots?

I know most users do not reguallry try and activate different modems, probably once every few years.

The frustrations involved dealing with overseas CSR's with poor english skills is something that would drive most people to forgo a customer owned modem.

Have the Tech on site check the following:

Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem. Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly. Have the tech check the cable modems connection status page while they are there.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.
Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute then back ON.

https://www.duckware.com/tech/solving-intermittent-cable-modem-issues.html

ISPs are usually needing to activate any modem that comes online. How well walled gardens work and mobiles apps, who knows. For my ISP and have to call in or get with online chat to get something activated.

Re: New - CBR750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.8 Released

The same intermittent WiFi issues as OP. Random overnight outages and needing to reboot the device several times a week. Works fine when it’s connected to Internet; have had some issues with WiFi door lock disconnecting as well.

Customer support had me change my DNS addresses and MTU size, which helped a bit but did not end my issues completely . My ISP is xfinity.

Need a device that can be stable while we are out of town, otherwise WiFi door locks, video doorbell, etc. don’t function. Not acceptable for the price

Has anyone held of any FW update in the pipe line?
This is getting beyond manageable and tolerable.
Have to upload an older FW to fix problem is not a solution

Re: New - CBR750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.8 Released

Completely agree @R800bby

My CBK752 (CBR750 & RBS750)  have seen performance degradation and instability since firmware V4 was pushed to us.

Workarounds of rolling back to V3, or hacking and disabling AX for 2.4ghz are unacceptable!!!

Why have Netgear team (Customer Support, Technical Support, Product Management, Engineering, Research & Development) members been quiet, not provided and communications or updates!!!

I agree with the performance degradation since August. The latest version helped some but still not to where it was before. This frustrated me very much because I had recommended the CBK752 system to famly and friends who had bought it within the past year.

I was frustrated enough to try some different modem/router combinatons and finally setteled on using my older CM1000 modem and a Lynksys MX5300 mesh router. Rock solid with my 40+ devices and speed and coverage equal to or better then the Orbi's with only a single node vs Orbi router and satellite.

@FURRYe38 - Could you please clarify:

  1. Who "owns" the community (netgear.community.com)?
  2. What is the purpose of this community? (Self service, support case deflection, peer to peer knowledge sharing, etc.)
  3. What do the community roles signify?- Super User, Guru, Star, Aspirant, etc.
  4. How about the role of Netgear Moderator?

If "official" Netgear team members are not monitoring this community, then in my humble opinion and in my experience with this community, rather than helping with my issues (ACTUALLY Netgear Firmware issues), deferring them to the extent that my 1year support  had expired!!!

Now, how do I even access Netgear Support? Pay for Extended Support!!!

Happy New Year,

How most tech mfr forums work. Devs and engineering don't visit tech forums. You'll not see this. They leave that to the support line if and when they are present or there is a need. Some areas of the forum are visited by higher ups. Some are not. And Mfr do not post about any udpates or make it known about future fixes or features. This can set a bad precedent in some cases which most Mfrs avoid for legal and operation reasons. Just how forums are ran. I've worked in other Mfr forums and see same thing.
