802.11ax support for RBK-53?

I bougt a RBK-53 kit last week to replace my almost 10 year old Linksys network.

I have a 30 day trial period.

at CES the new Orbi system is presented

https://www.cnet.com/au/news/netgear-orbi-mesh-router-gets-a-next-gen-wifi-6-edition-at-ces-2019/

It is not clear to me if the current hardware is replaced or if we can enjoy all new features and speeds with a firmware update

Current Orbi HW doesn't support AX wifi. Only AC. AC and AX are different HW chipsets.

If you want AX, you'll need to but AX supporting models.

Found it strange that in your CNET article it says that Wifi 6 will be available in Orbi with a software update which I don't think possible.

I think it will be a totally new hardware using a qualcomm chipset: https://www.anandtech.com/show/13802/netgear-orbi-ax-qualcomm

I agree, and had already contacted the author of the article - he responded right away.  It's been updated and no longer says it's via software update.

No doubt new hardware will be required, second half of this year.  I just wish we could have some solid firmware along the way, on existing systems :-$
