AT&T Fiber and Orbi WiFi System (RBK30)
Hey everyone, I have AT&T fiber and have 2 wireless access points that's coming off the AT&T gateway.... I have a AT&T WAP that is used for their wireless tv boxes and I also have another WAP (old wifi router) that I have wired from a switch that comes off the AT&T Gateway to extend the coverage. Should I replace the access point that I hooked up with the new Orbi router and maybe put the satellite in the basement for better coverage OR does the Orbi router need to come directly off the AT&T gateway without going thru a switch? Also, does the Orbi system use the same SSID as the AT&T Gateway? I really appreciate any info!!!! thanks!!

Re: AT&T Fiber and Orbi WiFi System (RBK30)
I would first ask the ISP if the ATT WAPs are specific to the wireless TV box or can these boxes work off a different wireless system like Orbi. Sounds like your ISP modem already has a bulit in router and wifi so if you add Orbi, you would need to disable wifi on the ATT modem/router unit if thats possbile.
The Orbi RBR unit would best operation while connected directly off the ISP modem/router.
Modem Combo Units:
This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
I would suggest trying Option #2 first, if this doesn't work well, you'll need to try Option #3 for the Orbi system.
