Asus router or direct network point RBR50

Should I use my Asus Router Asus RT-AC87U to connect Orbi router (RBR50) or can I just connect my Orbi (RBR50) directly to our apartment house broadband network point (socket in the wall).

I mean:

1. Network point (wall) > Asus Router > Orbi router

or

2. Network point (wall) > Orbi router

Internet connection (alternative 2) fails time to time.

I would suggest using the 87 as your router and the Orbi as an AP.  I have this exact setup and have had zero problems and great wifi coverage.  I think the Asus router has a more complete user interface and more options for setup.

Just remember to turn the wifi off on the 87, you won't need it.

Re: Asus router or direct network point RBR50

Thank you scottts! I will try that.

How about firmware? Router and satelites have version 2.0.0.74.

Many suggests in this forum to downgrade to version 1.11.0.20

Should I downgrade both router and satelites?

Well all I can say is I'm running the latest firmware with no problems.  After watching this board for a long time, I'm convinced most ofthe problems reported with Orbi are router function related.  By using the Orbi in AP mode, I've never had a problem on any firmware.

I'd try the latest firmware on everything and give it a go.

I did the same and coudnt be happier. RT-AC5300 Orbi RBR50. I switched the Orbi in AP mode.

95% better now 3 weeks in, no more stalls, freezes resets. The Orbi had the 2.4.1.10 update. It took about 30 to switch and configure, maybe 45. I highly recomend any one haveing  issues with Orbi put a better router on it. From day one I though the orbi was really week administrative functions.  Smiley LOL

You haven't been reading the same posts I have.  Most complain after using another router with the Orbi (AP mode).  This is something I've never understood, for the Orbi, when operating correclty, is advertised to cover up to 7k square feet.  How much coverage do you need?  Are you supplying Internet to your neighbors?

I'm using my ISP's router and my Orbi in AP mode and have had no issues at all.
