Can I choose which ORBI Satellite a device connects to?
Hi all,
I have an RBR20 system deployed within my house with 2 satellites as well as the router. I noticed that there are a lot of devices connected to the router and a few to 1 of the satellites and not many to the other. I have a wifi seciurity camera that is getting poor signal quality and I have found out that it is connecting back to the router and not the closest satelite and this is effecting the signal strength. Is there any way to choose or force which ORBI satellite a device can connect to as I want to force the camera to connect to the closest satellite and not the router which is furtherst away?
Cheers,
Scott

Re: Can I choose which ORBI Satellite a device connects to?
This is a frequent question. As I recall, the most consistent advice is to power cycle the device. When Orbi "comes up", the router comes up first and many devices that are already turned on grab a connection and then are not capable of moving to a stronger satellite signal. The Orbi cannot "force" a device to move. Apparently (waaaay above my technical level) there are 802.11 standards that allow WiFi access points and devices to negotiate connections and change them. Alas, not all devices implement these standards.
Maybe someone on the forum has other suggestions.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. Also check Daisy Chain configuration. Enable or disable for testing.
