I have a RBK50 router on ground floor and a RBS50 in the basement. I can not keep them connected wirelessly. Can I use a wire to connect them?

Of course:
Be sure to disable Daisy Chain on the RBR.
If you use a LAN switch in between the RBR and RBS, ensure it's a non managed and non Green Ethernet switch.

I used to use a green switch between mine and switched to a managed switch. Never had an issue and could always max out my speeds. If you run into problems, I'd look at this advice but I wouldn't buy new hardware without trying out your current stuff first.

Glad that yours is working. Others have reported problems with Green Ethernet switches. Managed switches can be used if you disable all IGMP protcols. Yes I have a managed switch as well. For ease of user information, mention of non managed and non green ethernet switches. Users can make there decision from that point.
