Can you use manual DNS while getting dynamic IP address from provider?
I can't seem to set the DNS address which will be used by my network.
Is a manual DNS address verboten if you're getting your router's IP address via DHCP?

Re: Can you use manual DNS while getting dynamic IP address from provider?
Yes, you can select manual DNS regardless if you have static or dynamic IP address.
This can be set under >> ADVANCED >> Setup >> Internet Setup

Except it won't let me choose "Use These DNS Servers".
In fact, the only way I can get it to allow that choice is if I choose "Use Static IP Address".

Re: Can you use manual DNS while getting dynamic IP address from provider?
This has become a frequent question lately. What we seem to find is that customers who activate Disney Circle or Armor find that they no longer get to define custom DNS servers. Would you by chance have activated either of these?

Re: Can you use manual DNS while getting dynamic IP address from provider?
Well (sigh) this appear to be your situation. As I recall, one user was able to turn off Disney Circle, set custom DNS entries, and then turn Circle back on again. (Search the forum posts for DNS)

Re: Can you use manual DNS while getting dynamic IP address from provider?
Worked for me, thanks for the tip.
- Went to Basic -> Parental Controls
- Toggled Circle from Enabled to Disabled
- Went to Advanced -> Internet
- Left Internet IP Address set to Get Dynamically from ISP
- Set DNS Address to Use These DNS Servers and entered my custom servers
- Apply to save the changes
- Went back to Basic -> Parental Controls
- Toggled Circle from Disabled to Enabled
Now I have custom DNS servers set with Circle parental controls enabled.

Re: Can you use manual DNS while getting dynamic IP address from provider?
I never would have thought about Circles. I turned it on and never used it. Lately my ISP has had issues with their DNS servers and while I can manually modify them in Windows for the adapter, that isnt the ideal solution. So I decided to try to change it on the Orbi and same issue you had. After disabling Circles, I can manually set to google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Thank you for posting a spot on solution.

I use Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1.
Cloudflare's less data hungry - more internet infrastructure minded.
I shudder to think how Google may see this a data harvesting opportunity.

go to orbilogin.com > Internet
Check "Use These DNS Servers" and choose the DNS servers you prefer.

Re: Can you use manual DNS while getting dynamic IP address from provider?
Must've been Disney Circle which was disabling the setting, since I've got Armor on my RBK853 and I can set a DNS address - or maybe things were different on the RBK53 than on the RBK853.

When Circle is enabled on the 50 series, this disable the DNS configuration page.
