Devices connecting to farthest location

I have devices that are connecting to the router but are closer to the satellite and vice versa.  They are actually connecting to the weaker of the signals.  Is there away to intentionally connect devices to the closer satellite of router?

Re: Devices connecting to farthest location

People have suggested various methods to do what you ask.  The easiest is to power the device off and then turn it back on.  If the signal is enough better from the satellite, then the device should connect there.  Orbi has a complicated system for moving devices from router to satellite and back.  Orbi has to determine that there enough benefit from the change to do it.  In general, the concensus seems to be "if things aren't broke, don't fix them."  i.e. if the device seems to be performing as it should, then "so what?"

You can search the forum for words like "force device to connect to".

Re: Devices connecting to farthest location

What FW is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?
Is the Orbi system operating in Router or AP mode?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
What WPA security modes are you using?

Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO.

Try disabling the following and see:
Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).
