HP4050 IP-based laser printer stopped working after Orbi upgrade

So - totally thrilled with the new WiFi coverage and speeds throughout the house, BUT, our workhorse HP 4050 can no longer be printed to from any of our Mac systems!

The printer was initially set at 10.0.1.100 when it was working on the old network -- I changed it to follow the new Orbi router IP (192.168.1.1) - so the printer is now a fixed IP at 192.168.1.250 - but it refuses to print. I've deleting the old printer profile on two Macs and setting up new ones using the Line Printer Daemon - LPD setting, it just spins and spins forever when trying to "setting up"... and never successfully prints anything anymore.  Hoping someone can help.

Re: HP4050 IP-based laser printer stopped working after Orbi upgrade

Is the Macs and printer all using the same 192.168 Ip address pool strings?

The 192.168.1.250 IP address set ON the printer or the router? If this is a static IP address, it should be set ON the printer.

Ensure you set up any Static IP addresses ON the printer correctly. You also need Gateway and Subnet Mask IP addresses as well.

Istead of using the LDP, try using the IP/HP Print socket option on the Macs. Does the printer show up in the deault add pritner window which say Bonjour?

Re: HP4050 IP-based laser printer stopped working after Orbi upgrade

1) Yes, Mac and printer is all using same 192.168 IP address pool string.

2) Yes, IP set on the printer

3) Didn't do anything with gateway or Subnet mask since it wasn't required when we had Apple Airports serving the wifi. You are AWESOME! Thank you for pointing this out. It's not exactly obvious for (anyone?) to need to do all this, nor the location of where to find such settings, but voila! It's online and printing again. Thank you!!!

For others that need help on this, HP published details on how to set these on the printer here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bpj02326 and you'll find subnet and gateway info for your new Orbi in the Internet Setup tab using your browser to manage your network (http://orbilogin.com/index.htm).
