How to know which Orbi a device is connected to?

I'm trying to debug and optimize my Orbi installation. How can I know whether my iPhone or computer is connected to the main Orbi vs the Orbi satellite?

Re: How to know which Orbi a device is connected to?

I just found a reply on a previous thread I had posted which answered this question: To find out whether you're connected to satellite vs base station, you need to 1.) find satellite's IP address, 2) go to that satellite IP address, and 3) view connected devices.

Would be so much better if the basic Orbi connected devices showed satellite vs base as well as whether they're connected to 2ghz vs 5ghz.

Try this:

1.  log into Orbi and and click on Attached Devices

2.  click on any device name to enter Edit Device screen

3.  click in device name box

4.  press the <enter> key on your computer

For me this brings up an alternate listing showing devices connected to the router and each satellite.

Thanks very much for this. Very helpful.

Not sure why Netgear makes this so counterintuitive and hidden.

Thanks for posting this.  This screen is much more useful than the base "connected devices" screen.  Not sure why its so hard to get to.

Re: How to know which Orbi a device is connected to?

this doesn't seem to work anymore, i just get the normal list - which is worse than useless when you're trying to diagnose speed problems

why isn't this a base feature?  is anyone reading this stuff?

I knew it was a bad idea to et it upgrade the firmware.

You can check whats connected to each satellite by using the IP address of the satellite in your web browser this will bring up a wep page showing whats connected to it. You can find the IPs in the attached devices tab.

Re: How to know which Orbi a device is connected to?

Logging into Main and then finding the Sat's IP and logging into it seems like a long way to go see which devices are attached. Liked it better when it was all on the main page.

Thanks for posting the method we have to use.

Re: How to know which Orbi a device is connected to?

It Sucks !

Even when you access the Connected Devices List using the IP of the satellite the details are a mess.

1. Only 6 of my 17 devices connected are named and even then a name like android-c80c036ebcddf3f3 is very difficult to manage.

2. Other devices are listed as <unknown>

3. There is no option to rename devices

4. Trying to manage a list if MAC addresses is extremly difficult versus named devices.

5. Devices are either wireless or wired. No mention of 2.4G or 5G.

6. No status report.

7. Personally I have found no way to display connected devices information in the Netgear Genie app.

So, all in all a right PIA.

Yet in seeking to make improvements, the ability to show split connections ( a really helpful tip by rhester72 ) was removed.

There is obviously a good reason to remove the ability to separate devices but I fail to see why a really useful addition to the management features (that actual users found useful) should be denied.

Billy.

And still waiting to be able to buy an additional satellite in the UK. I really am a glutton for punishment.

Doesn't work for me.  Just goes back to native listing.

Log in to what? Computer and type in browser?

I'm not clear where to do this.  Can you expand a bit?

Re: How to know which Orbi a device is connected to?

So here is a relatively simple method to see what devices are connected to the satellite.

1.From main router control, ORBILOGIN.co, go to attached devices and note the IP address of your satellite, probably 10.0.0.2.

2. Open a new tab in your browser and enter the IP address of the satellite.

3. You will be asked for a UN and PW.  They are the same as for the ORBILOGIN page.

4. You will be taken to a page with tabs on the left.

5.  The top tab will give you the functional status of the satellite.

6. The next tab down, Connected Devices, will show you what devices are currently attached to the satellite.

7. The firmware update tab is for already downloaded files with updated versions of software.

8. The final tab logs you out of the satellite.

So, all in all, very simple and very direct.  Refreshing is slow, but it does work.

I hope that this helps everyone, and I wonder why Netgear hasn't posted this up front or made it easier to do this.

Best,

Wil

Re: How to know which Orbi a device is connected to?

Thanks.  This works well, and it woould not be very hard for them to let you link to the IP address of the Satelite right from the main screen.  It could even carry your existing login password with it if they chose.
