Network security question
Hi,
Something called "C2 Development" keeps popping up under my Network connections and even though I turn it off on the ORBI App next day a couple new connections with the same name pop up. I do not have any reports of security breaches but I do not know what this is.
Anyone has encountered/knows what this may be?
Many thanks

Re: Network security question
You might post about this over in the Orbi app forum.

Do you have Armor or Circle enabled? Try disabling those if you do.
Good Luck.

Re: Network security question
Thank you very much. Yes, I do have Armor enabled but why would shutting this off resolve the issue? Any idea of what this may be?

Re: Network security question
Seen odd issues and posters with problems seen with Armor. Something to post about in the Armor forum as well to see if there is any additonal information:

The next time one of these appears, it might be useful to copy down the device MAC address and then use one of the many manufacturer lookup web sites to discover which company the ethernet adapter belongs to. For example:
https://www.wireshark.org/tools/oui-lookup.html
Products like Orbi use a database of "Organizationaly Unique Identifier" codes to report devices they encounter.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organizationally_unique_identifier
Another possibility is the latest trend in WiFi where devices create random MAC addresses each time they connect to a WiFi network (as a security measure). A recent firmware update to iPhones and iPads, for example, has a setting where they can use their actual hardware MAC address or create one of these "pseudo" addresses. One of my Raspberry PI's got set to do this and it drove me crazy trying to figure out why every time I turned it on it got a new IP address that was NOT the IP address that II told the Orbi to give it. Once I disabled that "feature", my life got a lot easier.

Re: Network security question
Found it. It seems that this C2 Development, Inc is a part of a US manufacturer that builds the aquarium lights that I use and are WiFi controllable. It must be related to some kind of Update though given I have had them for a number of years and only recently this started to happen.

Re: Network security question
Something to post about in the Armor forum and let them know about this...maybe they can add this device to the safe or white list for Armor.
