New Orbi Installation Fail

Purchased a New Orbi today (Australia)

I have NBN Fibre to the Home via TPG using a Netcomm NF12

I tried for 4 hours to set up the RBK50

Tried to install directly to NBN Moddem and via Netcomm NF12, no success.

I tried to connect to Netgear support - useless!

Tried the Community support , no luck there either.

Can anybody help please? or should I pack it up and return the lot to the shop?

Re: New Orbi Installation Fail

Be sure to try on of the 3 suggestions since your modem has a built in router.

Test wired speeds first. Wireless can be problematic an inaccurate.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Try disabling the following and see:
MIMO, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

Modem Combo Units: https://www.tpg.com.au/helpdesk/pppoe/Modem_configuration_NF12_Win10.pdf
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, LAN to LAN and configure AP mode on the Orbi router.

Re: New Orbi Installation Fail

Thanks for your help Furry e38,

I started from scratch and this time instead of usingthe app, i used the web browser on my PC,

reset the new Orbi System to my router configurations settings,

tested the system and voila ! It worked like a charm !

I conducted speedtest and had the fastest speeds ever on his account 97mbps DL and 57mbps UL,

a few days leter and our speeds have reduced dramatically, current test results 45mbps DL and 36mbps UL

Any ideas how we can increase and maintain the higher speeds?

Re: New Orbi Installation Fail

How is the modem configured?

Are these speeds tested later via wired or wireless PC?

Re: New Orbi Installation Fail

Hi FURRYe38,

these tests are all via wireless connection to the Orbi,

Orbi is connected via cat 5E cable to NBN Modem,

We pay for 100mbps NBN Fibre to the Home, fibre runs direct into the NBN modem

Re: New Orbi Installation Fail

Thanks you very much FURRYe38,

I really appreciate your assistance in setting up my Orbi ,

It has taken a bit of time to get it all exact, however things are good,

I arranged th e following based upon your feedback:

Channels? Auto? Yes, changed to channel 6 on 2.4Ghz and  channel 36 on 5Ghz.

Wifi Neighbours nearby? One I turned off the device (I own it)

 no others within range -

Try disabling the following and see:

MIMO, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. - I changed these till i found the most effective settings, and everything worked well,

I moved the satelite to a new location, coneected via ethernet cable,m it now provides excellent coverage to both the whole house and the 2 floors of workshop

this is an excellent system, that does need some time and effort to set up, once complete it runs very nicely
