Updated to the new firmware about an hour ago.

Attached devices all reporting ok except for Ring (reporps connection type unknown).  It now seems to take a bit of time for the attached devices to populate.  Sat. reported as not connected but about 12 seconds later it reported good.  This was not the case with the prior beta 211 software which populated the devices instantaneously and correctly.   Will monitor.

Same for me on Ring but a power cycle on Router + Sat took care of that.  Needed to wait about 5 minutes for things to update on the connections.

Still getting disconnects where the orbi even disappears from the available WiFi connections altogether.

Anyone know what the last stable version was? I’ve resigned myself to having to do a manual roll back and stop automatic updates.

Indeed, same problem here, satellites are going down several times a day (I have google home, android 8, google chromecast, ...)

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

So waking my phone this morning rebooted the satellite. I checked statisitics pahpge.

Looks like the router rebooted shortly after midnight. No idea why. I have a system uptime of 7:30 and backhaul time of 7. Does that mean it took 30 minutes just for the backhaul to reconnect?

Getting a velop this morning. Hopefully Netgear sorts this out and I'll give my orbi to my daughter. Currently I would feel right even giving it free to some one else.

I’m 2 days and 19 in to using this latest firmware. So far, no reboots. I do have an Android phone (7.0) and also a chrome cast. I’ve kept the chrome cast turned off since it’s a known, unfixed problem. So far, seems pretty solid. Main complaint is it seems to be very biased toward using the Router vs satellite. I have a satellite maybe 6 feet from my wireless thermostat and it still connects to the router that is upstairs and across the house.

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

Yeah… I do have the same issue. A couple of my 2.4Ghz clients connect from upstairs to my router on the groundfloor, instead of the satellite upstairs. I am think about further reducing the 2.4GHz radio power… Currently, I do have both radios on both devices set to 50%, maybe tweaking them to 25% will mitigate this behaviour.

not sure how solid it can be if you have to disable devices on your network to get it to work.....

I've unplugged my 2 chromecasts, and google home and still have reboots. Not sure if i'll ever buy Netgear again.. and that makes me sad because it's awesome tech when it works.

Pretty easy actually. It’s a google problem that would require a workaround fix from Netgear. I’d rather Google fix it for good. That said, would be nice if Netgear WAS responsive enough to add some sort of optional fix for this, something that could be toggled, until google fixes it for good.

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

Here is what i have and what i did. i have one RBR-50 and two RBS-50's...

They were all auto-updated to 2.1.1.16 from 2.0.0.74. Broke everything. Reverted back to 2.0.0.74. Telnetted in and disabled auto-update. Then i manually updated router from the zip file to 2.1.1.18 and updated the satellites from the admin page.

Done. No issues so far.

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

I did exactly as you did. Firmware 2.1.1.16 had issues so I rolled back to 2.0.0.74 for stability. Yesterday I took a chance and manually updated to 2.1.1.18. Satellite first, then router. While it isn't written in the Netgear "How To" file, I turn off all my devices (or put them in airplane mode) while I apply the firmware updates. Additionally, I reboot my cable modem immediately following the firmware install. I then bring all the devices online one at a time. I don't want to jinx it, but my system has been rock-solid for over 24 hours with no reboots or buffering issues (streamed two movies last night via Netflix). As a point of reference, I do not have any Android or Google OS devices.

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

I have to reset my router every 24-48 hours and it is running in AP mode so the system is not even doing any heavy lifting.  I am pretty much done with this system.  I work from home and I can't trust it to not crash on me during a critical meeting.  It's frustrating because it seemed to have worked well for a while and then firmware update after firmware update, I just run into new problems.

One of the updates took me completely offline, one screwed up my DNS resolution, these last few have been the consistent daily or every other day crashing.  For the cost of this system, I don't expect these kinds of issues.  I had an Asus RT-N66U which just worked, forever, no crashes, 24 hours a day, every day.  The only thing it was lacking was Wi-Fi range.

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

I just got the beta update for Google Play Services on both our Android phones.  So, I went ahead and plugged-in our Google Home and Google Minis that have been unplugged for over a week.  I'm happy to say that it appears that the update fixed the reboot issue.

Orbi firmware: 2.1.2.18

Google Play Services:  11.9.75 beta

I still hope Netgear updates its firmware to prevent future issues like this one from rebooting the router.

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

Just a quick thing...noticed that my desktop (that's currently plugged into a port on the Orbi router unit) lost internet earlier today, first time in a long time. Looked at it, and the light was showing magenta, isolated, not sync'd with the satellite. Satellite wasn't showing any light at that point. So I immediately thought of "loss of sync" of the router unit as a possibility, pressed the "Sync" button the back of the router unit. Within about a minute, the router unit was back in sync with the rest of the world. No further problems in the hours since, everything fine again.

Thought I'd mention that in case it might help anyone else at some point.

Good luck out there!

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

I got the same reply, which is: "This firmware file is incorrect! Please get the firmware file again and make sure it is the correct firmware for this product."

I am not able to update the firmware in neither the online update nor the manual update tab under firmware update. I am very certain I have tried downloading the firmware for my RBS40 sat. The filename used is RBS40-V2.1.2.18.img.

Any suggestions for how to solve this?

Almost the same here :

Firmware check shows :

"Router RBR40 : RBR40 V2.1.2.18 No new firmware version available."
"Satellite RBS40 : Orbi Satellite-1 V2.1.1.16 Service unreachable"

and no way to update satellite manually ("This firmware file is incorrect! ...")

@GEB222

1. Manually download V2.1.2.18 firmware for the satellite from here:  https://www.netgear.com/support/product/RBK40.aspx#download.

2. Navigate to orbilogin.com in a broswer.  Log into orbi and find the satellite IP address in GUI.  Satellite IP address is shown under attached devices.

3. Navigate to http://Satellite IP/fwUpdate.htm in a broswer.  Log into orbi and browse to the location where you downloaded the firmware and install.

Thank you for your reply iJester, but still it returns the same error message in my case:

The uploaded file I used was RBS40-V2.1.2.18.img for my RBK40 satellite, which I believe is an RBS40. Perhaps there is something wrong with the file?

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

I had the same probelm this morning after waking up my phone (Note 8).  The router just kept rebooting each time i tired to use the WIFI.  I turned up the WIFI radio on the phone and the router has been stable for 1.5hrs so far.

I updated to 2.1.2.18 yesterday afernoon, plugged back in my chromecast and goolge home devices and this ran well untill this morning.  I had hoped the new frimware would have some protection to prevent it from restarting. I'll reboot my phone and look into the beta for Goole play services and see if the same  thing happends again.

Hey Netgear I'm sure you have tons of data on this but if you need any logs or dumps let me know.

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

I am seriously going to contact a lawywer about this.  Netgear is pushing this update, I have had to downgrade this firmware 3 times, it keeps pushing.  EVERYTIME it pushes IT BREAKS MY ENTIRE HOUSE... no wired connections work correctly, and I have a switch that controls over 16 wired connections.  THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.  Nothing that netgear does for a FIRMWARE update that should break everything behind a netgear switch.  This makes no logical sense.  This breaks my house every time.  I keep downgrading it, then I go in and change my NVRAM so the router is not supposed to update, but somehow it updated.  Does the NVRAM reset if the power goes out???!?  At least I was able to manage this by keeping the router from breaking itself with its own stupid firmware update, Netgear you need to get your SH$%T together.  This is going to get you sued.  People cannot work from home.

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

Updated to 2.1.2.18 yesterday and woke up to no wifi at all this morning.  Rebooted router a couple of times and finally had wifi, but no satellite.  Have tried everything including factory reset of both the RBR50 and the RBS50.  Did initial setup twice and it keeps saying "satellite not found".  Moved RBS50 into same room as router, but it still won't sync.

At 76 years old, trying to get our wifi at a reasonable speed is not my idea of how I want to spend my time.

Anything else that I can try?  Don't know if using an earlier firmware will solve the problem and don't know how to go back to an earlier version.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

I KNOW GOOGLE FIXED THE ISSUE AND PUSHING IT TO DEVICES BUT NETGEAR, I CANNOT CHECK EACH AND EVERY DEVICE FOR THE ISSUE. YOU HAVE TO RELEASE A FIX FROM YOUR END TO MAKE SURE NO-ONE WITH ROGUE DEVICE COULD SHUTDOWN YOUR PRODUCT'S MAIN BUSINESS, NETWORK. IT SEEMS LIKE YOUR ORBI SYSTEM CAN TAKE CARE OF DOS- ATTACK BUT NOT THIS ANDROID OR PACKET BURST ISSUE.

ANY ROGUE DEVICE COULD SEND A BURST OF PACKETS, AND THAT IS WHAT ALL IS NEEDED TO SHUTDOWN THIS PREMIUM PIECE OF SH***T NETWORK GADGET. SOME MEDIOCRE

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

Yes, I have the irregular ping times on local network as well.   2.1.2.18 so far has been better than 2.1.1.16 and 2.1.2.10, which actually appeared to drop pings (may have actually been just way-too-long returns).

I think others have observed similar issues on wide variances of ping response times.  I've compared the tests to previous ASUS router, it definitely originates in the Orbi.  Either some QoS issue or something - I have tested same when connected to the router instead of satellite, and also get the variances - just not quite as bad as when going through the satellite.

Re: New Orbi firmware 2.1.2.18 update issues?

Thanks for confirming! I have the same amount of drops when connecting to the main unit. It is so bad that I have audio drops I never encountered this with my previous Apple system... Wondering if I should send all these supposed marvels back to Amazon .... The coverage and the signal are definitely very good but what's the point if I cannot listen to my music ?)
