ORBI RBK53

Is there a way to have a device preferentially use the 5G or to manually change it? Our PS4 always connects to 2.4 and my son complains about the speed. The PS4 sits halfway between the router and one of the satellites.

What Firmware is currently loaded?

Everything is done automatically. The wifi signal is handled by the PS device.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
What WPA security modes are you using?

Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or maynot be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Try disabling the following and see:
Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

You can also try turning down the power on the 2.4Ghz radio from 100% to say 50% to see if this changes how the PS connects.

There are several models of PS4.  At least one of the models has only 2.4G WiFi.

As @FURRYe38 points out, where the PS4 is in relation to the two WiFi units (router, satellite) is not as important as whether the 5G signal is strong enough for a device which supports 5G to choose it.  Since it is probably impractical to move the PS4 closer to one of the units, turning down the 2.4G signal strength would make 2.4G less attractive to every device in the house.  Some devices with only 2.4G may lose connection if the signal strength falls too much.

Intereseting that the original PS4 didn't come with 5Ghz support. Sony nickle and diming the product.

@Tomahawk5150 If the PS doesn't support 2.4Ghz, you could setup a wireless media bridge that supports 5Ghz and then connect the PS4 to this media bridge via LAN cable for 5Ghz connection thru the media bridge.
