Open port setup on RBK50 for Qustodio and multiple iPhones
I need help to use Qustodio on both of my children's iPhones because they
won't connect to Qustodio VPN service when their phones are connected to our
Netgear Orbi WiFi System.
I've read a few articles that I need to open ports 500 and 4500. However,
Port Forwarding only let's me open up those ports for one IP address that a
phone is assigned to. It won't let me do that for both of their phone's
assigned IP addresses.
I also read that Port Triggering was an option to open the ports for "any"
IP addresses, but when I go to the configuration window for that service, I
do not know what to enter for the following fields:
Service Name: "Qustodio" (I'd just create this service name for reference)
Service User: "Any" (drop down options: "Any" or "Single Address")
Service Type: "UDP" (drop down options: "TCP" or "UDP")
Triggering Port: ??? (not sure which port # to enter in this field)
Inbound Connection
Connection Type: UDP (drop down options: "TCP/UDP" or "TCP" or "UDP")
Starting Port: ??? (field range 1~65535)
Ending Port: ??? (field range 1~65535)
I appreciate you helping me figure this out. Thank you
PS: Please don't say to contact Qustodio cause I already tried and their customer service replied:
"In this case I would recommend that you open the 500 and 4500 UDP ports, used by Qustodio’s VPN. For additional help I recommend you contact the support for the router manufacturer"

Re: Open port setup on RBK50 for Qustodio and multiple iPhones
I'm not familiar with Qustodio, but I am very familiar with VPNs. Normally VPNs involve your devices initiating a connection to a server on the Internet, outside your home network. In that case no port forwarding is required on your router. If your kids' phones are initiating an outgoing connection to a Qustodio server then you shouldn't need to open any ports on your router.
Also, as you noted, incoming port forwarding only works for one IP address, so if it was required, which I doubt, you would only be able to use Qustudio with one device on your home network.
I don't have your answer, but I'm pretty certain you are barking up the wrong tree looking at port forwarding.

Thank you -- Maybe not Port Forwarding, but what about Port Triggering?

Re: Open port setup on RBK50 for Qustodio and multiple iPhones
Shouldn't need triggering either. Normally the router will allow outoging connections on ports 500 and 4500 (or any port) with no configuration.
If you have other devices on the network using those ports, maybe via UPNP, that can cause issues.
Also, if your Orbi is connected behind another router, or in DMZ mode behind certain routers, then this can block VPN. See this thread:
https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/Connecting-to-a-external-VPN/m-p/1483418
How is your Orbi connected to the Internet? Is it behind modem or router? What's the make and model?

Re: Open port setup on RBK50 for Qustodio and multiple iPhones
Both iPhones show they are unable to connect to Qustodio VPN when connected to my Orbi Wifi. If I disconnect them from the WiFi, they are able to connect to Qustodio VPN via cellular data.
I am not aware of other devices on my network using those ports. My Orbi is only connected to the internet by a cable modem [Motorola Surfboard SB6120], there is no other router.

Re: Open port setup on RBK50 for Qustodio and multiple iPhones
OK, so it's not a phone configuration issue. What IP address is your Orbi getting on the WAN interface? You can post just the first two numbers if you want. Is it a public address, not a private address like 192.168.X.X or 10.0..X.X?
You might need to try a factory reset of the modem and the Orbi.

Under the "Advanced" tab, under "Router Information" it shows IP address 10.0.#.# and under "Internet Port" it shows IP address 68.101.###.###

Re: Open port setup on RBK50 for Qustodio and multiple iPhones
Thanks. It looks like you have a public IP address on the WAN, which is correct. I cannot think of an obvious reason VPN is not working for you.
I have brought your issue to the attention of @ChristineT at NETGEAR. Hopefully she will be able to help.

Re: Open port setup on RBK50 for Qustodio and multiple iPhones
@KoodGarma Please let us know how this turns out. Several folks have asked on here about VPNs, but nobody has reported back whether they got things working or not. Thanks.
