Orbi Network ID RBK50

Windows 10 / 64. Orbi RBK50 Router & 1 Satellite. Previously established Home Netowrk via ATT-DirecTV for telephone, TV & Internet. ATT proprietary Router/Modem on 1 chassis. Changed ATT default Network SSID to my own name (let's call it "Alpha"). All worked well, wired connection & WiFi. However, some bad spots for WiFi in home. So purchased the Orbi. On installation of Orbi, which I did myself, I wound up with a new, custom named, Network SSID (Call it "Beta"). I do not recall how, or why, I did that, nor whether I was even given the option to merely use the already established Network SSId on the ATT router. End result I have 2 Networks. It is my doing. I have had problems. So I want to somehow get to just the one network previously established, Alpha, but with the benefit of the Orbi system. What do I do? Do I just reinstall some Orbi software; merely unplug the Orbi hardware & re-pug it in and try to set up again. Or can I even have just one Nework ID. Would appreciate help and thanks in advance.

Re: Orbi Network ID RBK50

What happends if you disable the wifi radios on the isp modem router?

Its no recommenced to run two wifi neworks in close proximity. You can if you use far separate channels between the two networks. ALso lower the power output of one of the source wifi radios to minimum.

What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

Re: Orbi Network ID RBK50

To: Furrye38. Thank you very much for your reply. Please be aware I do appreciate you taking the time to respond, and in such great detail. However, I am an end user person on computers and devices. I can install a word processing program, Adobe Acrobat, a spread sheet, an e-mail,a browser, etc. and customize them a bit to my needs and use them. However, I am by no means a computer guru. I could not begin to implement any of the possible cures you suggest. They are just beyond me. I cannot believe there is no "relatively" simple answer to my situation. I certainly am not the only end user who already has a router and modem that cannot just be disconnected, tossed out, and replaced by the Orbi Router and satellites. My existing router/modem serves my TV and telelphone, as well as Internet. I have to leave it in place. And probably most of those people who already have such a setup, but want to increase their WiFi reception, are merely "end user" types like me. What do they do when they "ADD" - not REPLACE - the Orbi system to their exiting setup. What is the original installation procedure on ADDING the Orbi setup so as not to have 2 WiFi Networks in their home. Somehow, I think I made a mistake, or mistakes, (probably not reading all the documentation sufficiently), when I bought, and setup, the Orbi. All I want to do now is fix my mistake(s). I would like to completely remove the Orbi setup, and start all over and do it right, so that I have an improved reception WiFi on my existing Network. OR - if I can reach that end result by a procedure without removing the Orbe setup, that a relatively simple minded end user can implement, I would love it.

Here is the instruction on how to accomplish what you want:

Good luck!
