I reccently got a new orbi router and have been having issues with portforwarding. I just tried making a minecraft server and everything is fine but something with the port forwarding is wrong. I used 25565 and did UDP and TCP and my local ip. However my friends cant connect and when I go to a port tester it says that 25565 is closed on my ip.
Has any one else had this issue and does anyone know how to fix it?

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
Getting the port tester to work is a good start... Something isn't working right. Is your Orbi in Router or AP mode? Does your cable modem also had port forwarding for 25565 and if so, is it forwarding that port to the IP of your server? If your server IP changed then port forwarding that worked with your old router will probably not work with your new one.

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
Thanks for the reply
However I belive my router is in AP mode though I'm not sure how to check, I didn't know modems needed to be portforwared (do I simpy plug my ethernet cable from my computer to the modem?), and don't know what a server IP is.
Thank you so much
Sorry for the ignorence

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
If your Orbi is in AP mode, then you don't need to worry about setting up port forwarding on it. You need to configure port forwarding on whatever device is operating as your router. That could be your modem, which might have a router built into it.

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
I actually may have misread the information. I believe my router is not in AP mode. Its operation mode is router but earlier I had read wireless settings

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
Does your modem have a router built into it and is it active? If yes, then you have a double NAT setup. This is generally not recommended. In particular, it makes port forwarding difficult because you have to open up ports on both "routers". You should either disable the router on the modem or put the Orbi into AP mode.

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
I would assume port fowarding on my router would involve me connecting my ethernet cabel from my computer into the router. However I cant use the ethernet cae in any other ports than the one the router is connected to. I sould think that this means my modem is not working as a router? Is there a way to find out?

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
Since we haven't established whether there are 1 or 2 routers in your network, it's unclear what you mean by "router." There are a number of tell-tale signs that your modem has a router built into it. Let's start with the easiest question. What is the model number of the modem?

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
Your modem must have a router in it. My AT&T Fiber modem has a router builtin. I had to put it into Bridge mode to get port-forwarding to work with the Orbi. I have a ton of port-forwarding going on and it works just fine in the Orbi. Even with the initial firmware, Orbi port-forwarding worked great.

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
Im very confused at this point. Im pretty sure I am using a single router set up, and that this should be working but its not. If someone could get on skype and or team viewer with me it would be greatly appriciated.

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
The picture you posted is really fuzzy, but it looks like a Cisco DPC3216, which is a cable modem.
Can you post the first half of the IP address on the Internet port (not the LAN address!) of the Orbi? This will tell us whether you have a public IP address.

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
Just go into the Orbi web interface by typing in a browser "orbilogin.com". enter username admina and the password you used to setup. then check if you public IP address is anything else than 10.x.x.x.x, 172.16.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x. If it is your are in router mode.

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
Ok, you have a public IP. That's half the battle. Does your PC show your network as public or private? You want it to be private. If you haven't already, turn on Network Discovery in Windows.

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
I got the same problem with my Orbi in router mode running firmware V1.11.0.20. I configured Port Forwarding with port 25565 for Minecraft and IP address of my son's Win10 PC running Minecraft server, but outside-in access of this server using the proper public IP address does not work. Only access from local network ("localhost") works. I also tried enabling DMZ for my son's PC but it is still no good. I even rebooted the Orbi but it made no difference.
Is Port Forwarding known to work in router mode? Are there additional settings within Orbi configuration needed to get Port Forwarding to work? I cannot change my Orbi to AP mode as my Arris cable modem does not have router functionality.

Re: Orbi Portforwarding Not Working
Thanks for the tip! After disabling UPnP and rechecking the Port Forwarding settings, I also temporarily disabled McAfee firewall in my son's PC before the Minecraft server finally tested working from my router's public IP address. Yay!
My son is debating whether to uninstall McAfee LiveSafe or just disable Net Guard (open firewall exceptions) for all the executables involved with Minecraft server...
