Orbi RBK 53 ethernet backhaul switch problem

After Compliments,

I am having an issue with 2 houses with the orbi router, satellites, modem and switch.

So here is the lay out.

I have a have a Hauwei HG8245H Modem.

This is connected to a netgear 16-port unmanaged switch "GS316"

The router has my RBR50 router connected to it, in addition to 3 satellites RBS50 connected to it.

Both the modem and the ORBI router have DHCP turned on.

There is a possibility the orbi router and satellites might be to far to detect each other wirelessly, i was hoping they would connect by ethernet bachhaul via the ethernet switch. but the satellites dont show up.

I tried pressing sync and using the website to add a satellite, but it isnt working.

Same issue with the other house, but its an 8 port smart managed netgear switch "gs108Ev3"

any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Re: Orbi RBK 53 ethernet backhaul switch problem

What FW is currently loaded?

Modem Combo Units:
This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

For wired back haul: Disable Daisy chain on the RBR.
Set up IP address reservations for each satellite and devices on the router as you add them to the router. The satellites need to be set up via wireless first. Then connect 1 satellite at a time to the ethernet LAN cable. Wait 5 minutes and the top led on the satellite should turn on BLUE. Set up an IP address reservation for the 1st satellite. Continue to do the same thing for the 2nd satellite. Then follow up with your devices.

There are some known issues with Managed and Green Ethernet switchs and Orbi systems.

If you can disable ALL IGMP procotols on the managed switch and if it doesn't have Green Ethernet features, this should help with the "other" house system.

Check your GS316 for Green Ethernet. Test the satellites directly connected to the RBR router in the same room to see if they connect WITH OUT the GS316 switch in the mix. If they work in this configuration, then the GS-316 probably needs to be changed out.

I agree with @FURRYe38, this is a clear double DHCP and double NAT issue. You have to choose either the Huawei router or Orbi as the main network router, otherwise beside that your devices will be belonging to two different separated networks, many services will not be able to survive passing through NAT twice.

I find this confusing.  The Hauwei HG8254H I see on the Internet has four LAN ports.  Orbi RBR50 plus three RBS50 plus one Netgear switch makes five devices.  How exactly are the components connected?  (That affects the comment below about DHCP.)

With the RBS50's connected to both the Hauwei and the Orbi, this looks like a receipe for disaster.  The way I remember it, a devices broadcasts a DHCP request and gets an IP from the first server to respond.  So, one time it might be the modem, another time the Orbi might be first.  So, defining the same IP for the satellites in both the Orbi and the modem would seem to be a good idea.
