Orbi Router 5G signal very low - Satelites are fine
Evening guys,
Having an issue with my Orbi Router (RBK43, which is RBR40 + 2xRBS20). Had it for a while and to be honest its working ok.
Just noticed tonight some internet problems and got looking. I suddenly see not one of the 30+ devices are connected on 5G...which I found strange. At least some get it on parts of the network. Primarily my laptop at least...
So I go checking and find that the actual Router is hardly broadcasting 5G, and literally sat next to it, the signal is under 30%, couple of metres away it goes to zero. (2G is fine).
The unit is in the principal location in the house, right in the middle in the most open space.
I checked the two satellites and they appear to be working as they should, 5G close with equal 90%+ signal strength.
So, does this mean the main device is damaged? It for sure worked fine when we put it in about 6 months ago.
Honestly, its not a huge issue, we're talking about the difference between 75M and 105M download speed, both of which are more than enough for its use....but I'm curious as to why it would happen. Again, I could always juggle the locations of the satellites and effectively remove the problem too.
Any insight anyone could give would be appreciated. Even just to know if its damaged and could be on its way out....
Thanks!
Steve

Re: Orbi Router 5G signal very low - Satelites are fine
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Is the Orbi system operating in Router or AP mode?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router
What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?
Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or may not be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?
