Orbi Support for 4K Arlo Ultra seen at CES?

Saw the new 4k Arlo Ultra this week at CES and wondered if this complex issue would prevent the Orbi from being able to support it.

Though Arlo was spun off from Netgear, they still own a huge chunk of it. The entire Arlo spin off was a cash raising ploy to move forward with the Arlo brand and new device roll outs. Though operating as separate companies, they are still deeply entwined. Arlo rolling out a product that could not be effectively supported by its first-cousin company is probably not an issue. The issue, in my opinion, would be Arlo - who has a poor record of updates to support the flurry of new products and features in existing basestations and apps - breaking existing Arlo systems.

But that will change gradually as Netgear completes the process started by last year's IPO for Arlo.

One thng that hit Arlo recently was the problem it was having with the Ultra battery supply, which many suspected would delay the release. Arlo badly needs the Ultra in the market to stay up with and surpass competition feature offerings, and now seems to have mostly rectified the battery situation and is sticking with its release target. The Ultra is feature rich, but very pricey. Arlo's biggest problem is that building new features in existing base firmware and apps for new products and for enhanced subscription features for installed base products, has had problems. They also seem to have some issue with keeping the backend up to speed with the growth of the product installed base. 

At the initial IPO, Netgear retained slightly over 50% of Arlo stock, and provides administrative and technical support for a fee (though that is scheduled to slowly change). 

Bottom line is that the Ultra will play nice with Orbi. Any issue that may arise will be in the Arlo firmware or in the app relation to mobile OS changes and updates, which Arlo occasionaly struggles to get right.
