Orbi and Airport Extreme
Long story: My home office is in an outbuilding behind our house. Spectrum dropped our internet line there. That line feeds a Spectrum modem which, in turn, feeds an Aiport Extreme router. With me so far? Good! From that router, there's a Cat 6 line running to the house that hits a Netgear giga-switch in our basement. That switch feeds two Airport Extremes in the house - one upstairs and one downstairs. And teh one downstairs feeds our TV via Cat 6.
Whew!
Obviously, the Airport Extremes have outlived their usefulness and I want to upgrade to Orbi. Having the Orbi router in my office seems like a waste, since the bulk of our real wireless usage takes place in the house. So - does it make sense - and is it techincally possible - to keep the Airport Extreme in my office as a router and have it still feed the giga-switch, and have that feed the Orbi? Our house is about 3000 sq ft and was built in 1927 - thick plaster walls and lots of 2x6's. Would I need a satellite upstairs as well?
Thanks for sticking with this question!

Re: Orbi and Airport Extreme
Yes, disable all wifi on the AE and configure the Orbi system for AP mode.

1. Or disable all wifi radios on the main host router and connect the Orbi router to the router, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem/ONT the AE router is connected too?
30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

Re: Orbi and Airport Extreme
Ok just checking for a router there as well. You should be good with Orbi in AP Mode.
