Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

Nothing was connecting to my satelite.  I tried turning UPNP off and fast roaming and various other things off and on.  I have gone back to 2.0.0.74 and back to normal...devices are connecting to the sat again.  I wanted to use Disney Circle but what's the point if half the devices in the house can't connect to the sat after that and they have very poor signal just connected to the router?

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

This is unprecedented. I have 4 days and 22 hours uptime on my router and satellite. The network seems to be stable and this is on the latest firmware. And I was just about to send it back. Keeping my fingers crossed that it stays stable.

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

Okay here's my contribution to the forum with the latest firmware release. I have not experienced the router or satelitte reboots others have mentioned. Just some brief annoying dropouts on my outdoor Foscam cameras. Not a big deal, but still there.

So I connected a wired backhaul to my (1) satellite and I show about (12) device connected to it. Of course now that it is wired, no satellite shows up as connected, but does appear below in the wired devices list. When you pull up its IP address it does show as connected with the (12) devices I mentioned earlier, but with one odd feature or lack of:

When I enable the fast roaming option in advanced wireless settings all the (12) devices disappear, but are still actually connected. No biggie just reporting my findings. If you turn the option back off, they show back up again and I will keep this off because my cameras stay connected much better with this off, as well.

Here's my configuration settings:

Everything is checked off and in advanced wireless setting and with default values, except daisy chain topology & enable fast roaming.

I did not think I needed the wired backhaul, but since it was a new feature with the latest firmware release and I had a 100 foot cat 6 cable I decieded to give it a try. So far no complaints. I am on a DSL internet connection and maybe I am expecting too much with my (80) plus devices, but over-all it is doing the job for me.

One more new development: I just checked the connected devices to my satellite and it jumped up to (32) from (12). This is more what I expected from the placement of the Orbi system in our 2500 sq. ft. home and has never been so high. I'll keep an eye on this forum, but hopefully this information will help some.

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

These reboots are frustrating.  Other than the random reboots, the system seems to be working fine.

I enabled telnet on the router and started poking around.  I found these log entries showing a kernel panic.  Unfortunately, I don't understand the entries enough to pinpoint the cause:

root@RBR50:~# grep panic crash_log

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

Major issues after update.  I can not get my 3rd satellite to connect to the system, even when having it next top router, following the sync button press and also tried 2 different satellites since I had an extra.  It just fails.  So can if not connect 3 satellites any longer?  This update is horrible and killed everything.  Also it stated today that it changed the routers IP address so it doesn;t conflict with myn internet provider.  Was very weird way this message came throughj.  Also was getting blocked access to regular web-sites with a page that popped up stated I needed to enter the serial number of theb router.  Is anyone from Netgear going to response on this thread to the issues?  I had a raid from them spent a total of $2k, and it died a year later and they wanted me to pay $300 to speak to someone on the phone.  I am going to attempt to call them to resolve, but not paying.

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

I had no issues with the previous firmware. After the auto update everything shows that it's connected to the router. Nothing shows on the satellite. When I am on the admin page from a web browser half of my devices say they aren't connected when they actually are. Any suggestions?

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

Major issues with the RBK50 and 2.1.1.16 firmware.  Seeing PS4 issues with VOIP party chat (Constantly dropping connections), and my VOIP phone (actually making it ring constantly).  Tried calling support, no real answers there.  I’m coming from an R7000 running tomato firmware.  And the Netgear firmware is leaving a lot to be desired.  Hard coded VPN option, and lack of configuration options.

Not sure if I was seeing any reboots....but overall speeds seemed worse.

That is a known issue and, ostensibly, is scheduled to be fixed in the next firmware release.

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

Not sure what's changed in my setup, but yesterday I was seeing devices connected via 5G and wired. Today, everything is showing connection type as wired, even when it's clearly wireless (such as iPads, etc.).

Router has been up for 36+ hours. The satellites have been up 20 and 24 hours.

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

My router CPU utilization dropped from ~75-85% down to ~12% when I disabled Circle.

I never installed the Circle app or started to finetune it in any way, just enable/disable made that difference by itself. I'll keep away from it for now.

Still not able to get my sonos...will continue to try but I am getting downright constant denial of service attacks.  Just constant.  I never saw these at all prior to this firmware.  Is there something I should be doing about this?  They look like this:

[DoS Attack: ARP Attack] from source: 173.28.128.1, Tuesday, December 26, 2017 02:39:20

I did experience disconnects of 2 (identical) devices yesterday (once each) but not sure if that occurred because they updated or an issue with Orbi firmware 2.1.1.16

Those IP addresses belong to "Mediacom Communications Corp" in Iowa.  Just computers on the Internet probing your rotuer looking for open ports to attack.  This happens 24/7 on the Internet.  Nothing to do with Sonos.

What problem are you having with Sonos?

I have no idea what to make of the DoS attacks. Nothing seems to be affected, best I can tell. Everything seems to be running normally with no known issues.

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

When I Telnet'ed into Orbi to try and prevent future auto firmware updates, one of the three nvram variable was not set to the expected value.  Here is what I found:

orbi_auto_upgrade=3404316802

auto_check_for_upgrade=1
auto_update=1

I was expecting the first variable to be set to 1 like the other two.  From what I have read on this forum, to turn off auto updates, we change the values from 1 to 0.  Does it matter that the first variable is not set to 1?  Is it safe to set it to 0?

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

I thought that was an issue with the last firmware for some?  Wonder how many months we will have to wait for yet another firmware update.  I was excited about Circle but now I am considering downgrading until they get this resolved.

Login to your Orbi and look under Basic/Parent Controls.  It's the first option.  The "learn more" will take you to a Netgear website.

Yes, I believe it was an issue but, apparently, it is still an outstanding issue with the latest firmware version. There wasn't much of a time delay between 2.1.1.12 and 2.1.1.16 so, hopefully, they can resolve this just as expeditiously.

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

I've rolled back to previous stable firmware V2.0.0.74 and updated NVRAM to prevent auto upgrades.   I just dont have time for an unstable network/router-sat reboots.  Will check back in 3 or 4 months to see if something more stable is released.

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

I was really hoping that they would update the "Device Type" listing to label attached devices the choices available for selecting labels for device type is very limited and not updated for many Firmware versions.  Netgear Engineering if you are reading this and while fixing devices showing all connected to main please update device type listing/selectable option as well...example no option for Echo dot, Reciever, notebook, switch, modem, camera, Ring Doorbell, VoIP phone, AmazonFireTV etc...list very outdated!

Re: Orbi firmware v2.1.1.16 discussion

I also had a $ in my router password.  Removing that appears to have helped stability.  It hadn’t been an issue until this firmware apparently since I had no issues in the year I have had this orbi.

At the same time I had Comcast issues, so it was hard to tell what was what.

so I’d suggest removing any $ in your WiFi passwords.  Thanks to whoever it was who mentioned that.

Um, you won't get any auto updates since Negear has stopped auto updates over the holidays. You'll get it in the new year.

We'll see how long I can wait, since the latest was working fine for me as well *smile*. I'm not sure that just because I see the "there's newer firmware" message that the Orbi in AP mode will be able to download it with the "wired-only" main router access restrictions in place. Time will tell.
