Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection

Agreed.  I see at least 4 people here that seem to be causing the issues.  I came here looking to fix my orbi disconnecting and not see bickering back and forth.

so back On topic

to know how to fix the issue you need to identify it first

posting your logs would be helpful as this will ideantify what the cause is , if the logs show disconnects and reconnects then further investigations can be made

if however its the wifi that disconnecting its another matter and is treated differently

Yeah, thanks to a few people running him off here.  Sad we lost a member that was helping the community.  You would have thought people would be more mature here.

so it should be clear to most that my upstream dchp server is just repooling my ip address for the orbi every 12 hours and this is normal , i have my orbi in ap mode connected to an asus router

so apart from that and some weirdness last saturday i have little in the way of drop outs

if others post their logs we may be able to see similar patterns

I'm going to have to put my ASUS router back online because the Orbi is just not stable at all. This product should have been tested for quality well before releasing it to the mainstream. I am very disappointed.

Just returned mine tonight.  I tried to stream a movie last night and had 11 disconnects (you could see them on the Apple TV but the movie had buffered enough so that it only actually paused once).  Reset and still got some.  Did a factory reset, set everything up again and my son was getting repeatedly booted out of an online game today.  While the thing is blazing fast when it's not disconnecting, it's just not stable enough - yet.  The Orbi has a ton of promise but I'm just not interested in spending time tweaking something.  If a future update improves the stability, I'll look at it again in the future.

Did you do a scan to check signal levels of sat and router and check for channel conflicts with neighboring devices?

Yeah, and that didn't matter. I still got the disconnects.

I'm not sure what you mean "didn't matter."  What did you do besides the scan? The scan results need to be interpreted and possibly changes made to the Orbi channels or device placement. A number of the people having problems are due to interference from other devices in their home--neighbors' WiFi, leaving old WiFi ON, etc.

What were the results of the scan?  Were there other WiFi devices present?  What channels were they on? What channels is your Orbi on?  What RSSI levels are you seeing for your router and satellite? Were you having any WiFi issues before installing Orbi?

If you could share these details, there might be some recommended changes to be made.

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection

Yes, I live in a big neighborhood. I moved my device, and put the device on channels that were better for signal quality. Some people have their router set to auto switch channel so it may be short lived. There is no excuse for the disconnects. I didn't have the problem with my other routers.

Ok. Thanks.  Not much you can do if your neighbors are not well-behaved.

There are many other interferers that won't show up in a WiFi scan.  Be suspicious of anything wireless in your house.  Moving things just a few feet can make a difference, too.  Microwaves, Sonos speakers, wireless video links, Bluetooth devices, and cordless phones can all cause issues.

My house has no nearby neighbors, but I have seen WiFi interference from the microwave on 2.4G and from Sonos speakers on 5G.  I recenty got a new DSL modem and the WiFi was on by default.  It interfered with Orbi, even though the modem was 2.4G only and they were on different channels.

Sometimes it's necessary to power cycle all devices after making network changes to get everything stable too.

sure why not put the asus back online but turn off its wifi and use the orbi in ap mode , best overall solution

was tested for 3 months in beta testing b4 being released

I took the orbi satellite off the network and that seemed to help. I will try it in ap mode if I run into issues.

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection

My connections are stable with the Orbi Satelite disconnected, but the performancee isn't as good. I will have to try the AP mode using my ASUS router. The performance was poor using just the Orbi router. I was watching Netflix and the picture quality was fluctuating from poor to great all through the movie.

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection

I haven't had a disconnect in the last couple of days, but there is a lot of "stuff" in the log. I cleared the log on Saturday morning and have a daily e-mail of the log set up now. The network was not changed; no equipment powered down or added. The whole family was actually away for the weekend so the house was empty. I am not posting everything as it is too long but here are some snippets. So my questions:

- lots of DoS Attacks. Are those real? And if so anything else I should set up on the router to make security tighter?

- lots of DHCP to MAC address messages. What is that?

Re: Orbi loosing Internet Connection

hi pat

that dos attack stuff is a bit weird are you ding any torrent type stuff ? as this could be causing you issues , looking at some of those ip addresses though it does look like chineese traffic which is quite suspect

the device 192.168.1.23 seems to connect a lot , it  belongs to ARRIS Group, Inc which sounds like an upstream router which means you running the orbi in dual nat , if this is the case and you cant bridge the upstream modem i suggest you run the orbi in AP mode

other than that your logs dont look bad at all

Nope, not running any torrents or anything like that. I also don't have any other routers in the system. 192.168.1.23 is one of my DirecTV DVRs, I do have 4 of them connected in.
