Yes, a factory reset and set up from scratch is a last resort thing to do.

 

Also the distances between the two satellites and base maybe a bit too close. 30 feet is a good starting point since the router can cover up to 30 feet on it's own. However as you mentioned, building materials maybe a factor. I have 1 base and 1 satellite in a 5000sq ft home and I have great coverage and performance.

 

I think you'll be fine since you reset the system. Yes, it's not ideal to reset the system and set up from scratch, however its valid and maybe needed as a last resort.
