Orbi vs 16 Chromecasts
So, it's been about two years since I first owned Orbi. And 18 months since I owned 16 Chromecasts (15 audio + 1 Ultra, and 4 speaker groups). All are wired by Ethernet. These have never worked properly with my Galaxy Note 8. The discovery in the Google Home app just fails and yields a seemingly random number of cast devices from 0 to 20. I work at Google and coworkers told me that this is likely a problem related to multi-cast / mDNS issues with Orbi.
I bought a 4-pack of Google Wifi recently at Costco, and it solves all the problems with the Chromecasts. But also it is much slower in some parts of my house due to lack of dedicated wireless back haul - as low as 40 Mbps vs >300 Mbps on the HTPC in my master bedroom. And Google wifi also cannot be administered by web browser on my desktop, and lacks VPN. Near the primary router/access point, Orbi does about 650 Mbps and Google Wifi does 400 Mbps, as is measured with iperf against LAN server.
I am about to bite the bullet and install CAT6 to wire all 4 Google Wifi access points - at great cost, several times that of any mesh system - and sell my Orbi. On the odd chance that there are some settings that can get all my Chromecasts to work reliably with Orbi, has anyone gotten this to work reliably before I spend all that money on CAT6 and sell the Orbi at a loss ?
