Re: RBK22 How do I get rid of certificate error
There are several issues:
- Netgear let the SSL certificate for several domain names expire in August, including "orbilogin.net" and "orbilogin.com".
Instead of purchasing a new certificate from Entrust (where the original certificate came from), they elected to "self sign" a new certificate, which modern browsers refuse to accept. So, connecting to "https://orbilogin.net" produces an error for most modern browsers. - The alternative to using the domain name (orbilogin.net) is to use the actual IP address of the Orbi router, however certificates do not apply to IP addresses, so browsing to "https://<ip of orbi>" returns an certificate error.
- Browsing instead to "http://orbilogin.net" or "http://<ip of orbi>" returns an error because "http" (no "s") is by definition not encrypted and thus not trusted.
Fortunately, most browsers "remember", so after you say, "go ahead, connect me anyway" they quit complaining.
This is has been a topic of much discussion on the community forum, and people are in general pretty pissed at Netgear.
