RBK53 Orbi- Restore from Backup Not working: 'Please select correct configuration file'
For some reason when I take a backup of the Orbi configuration I cannot restore that file to the same Orbi router and get the error statement: 'Please select correct configuration file'. The file is...

Hi - disappointed - Firefox gives the same results - Back to the drawing board!

Try Opera GX on Mac.
Ya I tent to use Safai on a limited basis. Apple has some some new things for OSX and Safari from what I'm told. Seems to be handling issue between the browser and FW in that regard.

Chrome?
I use Chrome on Windows. Their code base could not be that different from Javascript POV.

Opera's engine is based on Chrome so Chrome should work as well I would think.

Sorry folks - Opera gives the same results. Took new backups A OK, then Restore finds file fine then same error issue when trying to restore.
'PLEASE SELECT CORRECT CONFIGURATION FILE' then reverts back to main screen with no changes!
Cannot understand! Surely this cannot just be me when I have tried two separate Orbi Routers and various Safari (V14.0.2), Firefox for Mac, Opera for Mac, Windows 10 on Mac Bootcamp with Microsoft Edge. (Both MacBook Air and iMac with Big Sur operating systems)

This is not a universal or common problem, otherwise we would be deluged by similar complaints. There's something about your browser setup that is interfering.
Do you use any plugins that restrict scripting? as this si happening in different browsers, is there an antivirus or anti-malaware installed on your computer that is trying to "protect" you from what it thinks is risky behavior?
Try an iPad or some Android tablet (that typically has fewer security software running on it) with all default settings.
- gefbJan 09, 2021AspirantHi - I have an iPad Pro - how do I use this to backup and then restore the file please?

Be in the same room as the RBR. Use Safari on the iPad to connect to
This violates the general principle of using a wired connection (more reliable) to do web-interface activities, especially firmware updates. But, for something like backing up a setting, and then restoring settings, it should be safe enough.
Make a note of your settings so that you can re-enter them manually if the process isn't successful.
Note: if this works, the backup of the configuration will be stored on the iPad. You'll have to get that to your mac using the process that people in the Apple ecosystem use.
I use Windows (and iPhones and iPads). I email the files to myself and save them on my PC.

Reading through the post again, I do not see the "name" of the Orbi configuration file that has been saved. (Old eyes, sorry)
Did we confirm that it is "NETGEAR_Orbi.cfg"? Windows Explorer identifies it as a "CFG File".

Was this Opera, Next or GX?
I'll try OSX 11 next. It worked for me in 10.14.6 and Opera GX. There maybe a problem with OSX 11...

Ok so i loaded OSX 11.2 on my Mac Book Pro and Safari 14.0.3 and Opera GX both save the backup configuration to file, and turning right around and doing a Restore, I'm able to select the saved .cfg files with in each broswer, I see the pop up warning message:
"Warning!
Restoring settings from a configuration file will erase all of the current settings.
Are you sure you want to do this?"Select OK and the file is sent and I get a few seconds of the spinning circle icon then after that the long progress bar going for left to right. I did watch my wifi icon disconnect so the RBR did reboot.
I did also test this from my Windows 10x64 PC before I tried the Mac Book and watched the RBR reboot as the top ring LED came on and started blinkin.
All three restore tests succeeded and the RBR came back to ready each time.
I would try a different PC or Mac if you can to compare operations and results.

Thanks for all your efforts - unfortunately after trying all suggestions including using my iPad I continue to get the same restore message "Please select correct configuration file" all other functions appear to trigger and work - so its something to do with the .cfg file that is being created and then not accepted back again on restore. On 2 totally separate Orbi Routers - which makes it even more strange
So I'll just have to continue and hope a solution comes forth? The key is the error message: "Please select correct configuration file".
The backup files are always: Netgear_Orbi.cfg
Thanks again guys

I would presume that if your seeing this problem on two different Orbi systems, that something your using or these Apple products are doing something when generating the .cfg files and maybe corrupting the files. I would try to find a windows PC or laptop that you can test with and compare results.
Good Luck.
