RBR20 SSID not visible on older Windows 10 laptop
Router Information
Hardware Version: RBR20
Firmware Version: V2.5.1.16
GUI Language Version: V1.0.0.375
Operation Mode: AP
I am unable to see the SSID from my private and gueat network on a older (2014) Asus X551CAP laptop. The laptop is recently updated to Windows 10 and up-to-date with the latest drivers and BIOS installed.
- I can see a lot of SSID's from surrouning wifi-networks from my neighbors wifi.
- I can connect perfect with my mesh Orbi RBR20 with a newer laptops, iPhone, Android phones, mediaplayer, audio reciever, TV.
- I have read some post like the one I copied down here.
Use the admin browser (orbilogin.com), go to Advanced... Advanced... Wireless Settings, change CTS/RTS threshold for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz to 2347. This corrects many wireless compatibility issues.
If that doesn't work, in the worst case you can uncheck Enable AX in Advanced... Setup... Wireless Setup. But it would be a shame to disable AX on your new AX router just to remain compatible with older devices.
Unfounfortunately does that not work.
- My threshold settings are 2347
- I have no AX option to switch ON or OFF.
I am stuck now.
What to do to get my Asus laptop connected to my Orbi mesh RBR20?

My Windows 10 laptop has an option to manually enter the SSID of the WiFi access point. (It may ahve been titled "Hidden Network.")
Does your laptop have an option to manually enter the SSID?

Well, fudge. On my Windows 10 laptop, connect to hidden network brings up a box to enter the SSID.
After that, it brings up a box to enter the password. (I discovered that the SSID is apparently "case sensitive". It's a mystery to me why some parts of internet addresses are sensitive to UPPER/lower case and other parts are not.)
For sure, this laptop has only a 2.4G WiFi adapter, so 5G settings are not relevant.

Re: RBR20 SSID not visible on older Windows 10 laptop
Hi CrimpOn,
Thanks for your sugestion.
I am a ICT-manager and Linux specialist. I know how to connect to a hidden network. As I mentioned in an earlier post I can't connect to the SSID with the "hidden network methode". It look like that the wifi adapter isn't able to communicate with the Orbi mesh network. It looks like they are both talking a other language.

Sorry if I missed this, but...
Is there some other WiFi that the laptop does connect to?
(an older WiFi access point? a smartphone Hot Spot?)

SOLVED: RBR20 SSID not visible on older Windows 10 laptop
SOLVED
I finaly managed to solve this issue by manualy installing a ar9485 driver from a Microsoft .cab file.
- Download this cab file:http://download.windowsupdate.com/d/msdownload/update/driver/drvs/2016/12/200036119_9051a7da45dcac7e...
- Extract the file (it contains 3 files)
- Go into device management and find your WiFi card.
- Click right -> update driver
There is no suitable driver available on the Asus website, neither on the Qualcomm Atheros website and not in de default Windows update program.
