RBR50 / RBS50 Dropping Connection

Hello,

I've had my ORBI and one Satellite running for the last few years without any problems. Lately it's been disconnecting and dropping the internet connection. When I turn the hub off and back on the connection comes back.

I have noticed when it drops the internet connection, I am still connected to the Wi-Fi, but it won't allow me to login into the router despite being connected.

It seems to happen once a week at the moment. I was on the latest firmware, but tried downgrading to 2.5.24 from 2.7.2, but unfortunately didn't resolve the issue. I am running on PPPOE and Its set to 'always on'

Things I have also tried:-
Changing the SSID
Changing 2.4 & 5Ghz Channels
Traffic Meter turned off
Fast Roaming and Other Settings
Tried a Different DNS Server
Finally, Turning down the transmit power to 50%

No Avail. I thought this only started to happen since upgrading to 2.7.2, but since downgrading it's happening again, so ruled a firmware problem out. Any ideas? Couple of threads in the past on this, but they are from 2018~

Re: RBR50 / RBS50 Dropping Connection

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

I'd have the ISP check the service line up to the modem. The Orbi router depends on a good signal from the modem.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

Be sure Traffic Meter is disabled.

Thank you for your reply, @FURRYe38

Yes, I have performed a factory reset since downgrading the firmware and set it back up from scratch. Do you think i could try the wan_lease solution suggested in the past, or is this no longer effective?

Is this another case of bad firmware?

Re: RBR50 / RBS50 Dropping Connection

@FURRYe38

Thanks. Yes, I will report back.

@vajim

It's been a great setup —I did recently upgrade to the latest firmware, but had to downgrade as i thought this was the cause of the internet dropping. I'm currently back on V2.5.2.4 now and have tried the telnet suggestion. I've never had any problems in the past with the internet keep dropping out. Smiley Frustrated

I've just noticed In the firewall log, I am getting a lot of reports of 'DoS Attacks' and 'Other Scans' and didn't know if this would drop the connection or cause some sort of issue with the Orbi to lose it's connection?

Re: RBR50 / RBS50 Dropping Connection

@FURRYe38 @vajim

Just an update.

No reports of the internet dropping as of yet, since doing the telnet solution. Will report back in the next week or two.

I think i will stay on V2.5.2.4.

Re: RBR50 / RBS50 Dropping Connection

I can now confirm the telnet solution has fixed the problem for me. It would have dropped by now. I've decided to stay on the lower firmware version, but may consider upgrading to the latest firmware version and testing the telnet solution again. For now, I've decided to just stay on V2.5.2.4. I'm glad my Orbi is now functioning correctly without dropping out. I'm also considering upgrading my modem. It would be nice for the Telnet solution to be added to the latest firmware? No?

Thanks for everyones replies and @FURRYe38 for the advice.

Re: RBR50 / RBS50 Dropping Connection

Good to hear. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves tine if a reset is needed.
