RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

Good afternoon,

i'm out of options

i have an orbi rbr50 with 3 satellites.  my house is 250m², i think that's about 800square foot, two floors.

Since the start (about a month ago) my wireless network is dropping every ten minutes, and coming back online a few minutes later, practically unusable for the bussiness i'm running.

my isp is rock stable since i have one computer lan'ed to it and it doenst miss a beat.

i have tried: turning off daisy chain, mu-mimo, armor, circle.. and all the rest advised here on the forums.

i've had my isp place another router, so i could bridge it

i've downgraded firmware, reupgraded firmware and did about 15 factory resets after it

before the router change and the isp router in "bridge", i tried putting it in ap-mode: same thing

nothing works .. it's fine for one day each time, second day the drops are coming back occasionally, by the end of day two my wireless network is as much off as on.

phone support was .. not-supportive, promising me to get a callback by "specialists", but still waiting on it.

does anyone please have any other ideas?

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

lots of discussion about bridge mode in the search section.

try this:

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

my isp router is in bridge mode, my orbi is in normal router mode.

before this setup i tried with the isp router normally, and the orbi in both router mode and ap mode, both gave the same frequent disconnects

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

you may want to start over.  there are know issues with the .18 fw version.

does the compal cv8560E have wifi built in?  if it does, and you need to use it, then either the orbi or the compal cv8560E will need to be in the AP mode.  Not both.

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

I actually have started over, I downgraded to v30 firmware, had same problems, re-upgraded to the .18 fw and still having same issues.

the compal is bridged, the orbi is in router mode

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

if you don't need the compal, try setup without it, placing the Orbi in router mode.

otherwise try this:

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

Since your modem is in bridge mode already, then Router mode is needed on the RBR. There is not double NAT in this condition. This would not be a cause of your wireless problems.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or maynot be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

Above suggestions working:

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update on v2.5.1.8?

having 2 routers is a double nat condition without proper config

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

@FURRYe38

thx for the suggestion, although my setup is already as described.

after each major change (including fw down-or upgrades), i always do a complete factory reset.

i also tried wired backhaul this weekend, but again: after about 24h disconnects start happening more and more often.

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

Is the RBS directly wired to the back of the RBR or is there LAN switch in between? If so, What is the Mfr and model# of the ethernet switch in the configuration?

Any other wifi devices that you have that are broadcasting a signal?

Try some of the suggestions please.

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

they are connected through a netgear GS108GE, nothing else is broathcasting a signal.

there is no difference in behaviour between wired and wireless backhaul: 14h no issues, then slowly more till it's all the time.

I have also tried with only one satellite instead of three, was the same (tried two different satellites).

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

I have no throttling issues, all speeds are exactly as advertised (main reason i didn't bring this back yet)

but i will try with only the RBR, most RBS are about 30 feet away

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

Can you confirm the model# of the switch again? GS108GE or maybe a PE?

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

this is the exact model:

https://www.coolblue.be/nl/product/90250/netgear-gs108.html

i've tried turning off all satellites and am now in the happy first 24h where it always goes well.

I remember reading something about putting a timer on the satellites because there was an issue in an older fw version?  would this be a possible cause of my problems?  the fact the first 24h are problemfree, and then it slowly become worse all the time, tends to give me the impression i might be suffering from this?  I just don't want to spend the money on three timers to find out this isn't the cause either.

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

Ok just wanted to see if your switch was managed or has any green ethernet. These can cause problems.

What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)?

So with all RBS turned OFF, the RBR along the wifi is stable going back 24hr?
What happens if you turn on just 1 RBS with the RBR. Test this configuration past 24hr.

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

Unfortunately it wasn't stable either, all wireless received "verification error"

the distance normally between router and satelleties is approx 8m (25feet), but i have tried placing further and closer.  both didn't change the behaviour of the drops.

so i'm back to zero. any other suggestions I can try?

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

You can try downgrading to v30 on the RBR, factory reset and setup and test. If this still fails, possible that the RBR is faulty and needs to replaced or RMAd.

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

I have tried downgrading to V30.  although i did not do a factory reset afterwards.

I did however do a factory reset after upgrading afterwards again to latest version.

both times same result: a bit less than a day okay, then deteriorating

but i will try downgrading again and do a factory reset afterwards.  or should i try another fw?

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

Try v30 with a reset.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.

Re: RBR50 constantly dropping of wireless connection

loaded v30, did a factory reset,

using manual channel 1, wifi nearby yes, about 3 but low frequency.

beamforming, WMM and mimo enabled

everything disabled , coexistence is off, and short preamble set.

rebooting atm, fingers crossed, guess this is last shot before i return it and change.
