RBR50 dropping connection from main Orbi

RBR50 dropping connection from main Orbi

I have been having trouble with my Orbi RBR50 the past few months with it not connection and flashing the purple ring.  I press the sync button on the back of it and sometimes it takes a few times of doing that for it to come back on and connect.  I have 2 satellites that never have trouble, it's only the main one that is connected to my Xfinity modum with an ethernet cable.  I have reset the whole system and done all the unplugging and all that and it is still giving me trouble.  When it works it works awesome.

I am on Firmware mV2.5.2.4

I called Netgear last week as I was going crazy with it going out like 2-3 times a week.  I had like 3 days left on my warranty and they wanted to to purchase something to have them run some diagnostics on it.  The system is about 1 year old and there is no way I should have to pay for them to look at it.

I am thinking that the main Orbi is bad and I want to purchase a new one but have no idea what would work with my system.  Should I just buy a new main one or what are my options?  Really new to this so any help from anyone would be greatly appriciated!  Thank you!!

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.

I would manually update to v40 and see if this changes anything.

Motorola OCSIS 3.0 Cable Modum plus AC1600 Router. I have Xfinity.

Model: MG7540

House is about 3200 sq feet.  I would say a little over 40 feet or so.  1 in the basement and 1 in my family room.

Yes I am in a regulat neighborhood and there are people with wifi all over.  I just do not know enough about how to change the channels and all of that. (Rookie)

Thank you for the info!

Re: RBR50 dropping connection from main Orbi

Also our modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
