RBR50 drops Internet but keeps VPN
Hi,
I have an older HP tower, running Windows 10 and the latest update of NordVPN. I am hardwired through an Orbi RBR50 mesh router. I just recently noticed that my Internet connection on this computer was dropping regularly.
I then noticed that when I connected through NordVPN, I was able to connect to the Internet, even though I could not connect without it.
At the same time, my company Dell laptop with its proprietary VPN, also hardwired through the same router, did not lose its connection.
Have you ever heard of this phenomenom? Is there any way around it?
Thank you,
Jim Wallace

Re: RBR50 drops Internet but keeps VPN
There is a good chance that DNS resolution is failing on the Orbi. It would be simple to test this by doing some pings against known web hosts, first by name and then by number. For example:
ping ford.com vs ping 136.2.49.37
ping usc.edu vs. ping 68.181.8.136
Orbi allows users to substitute their own chosen DNS providers for the ones suggested by the ISP.
Many users elect to use Google DNS (8.8.8.8) or CloudFlare (1.1.1.1)
You can pick up to three and Orbi will try all three.
