Can I connect my modem to my router and then the router to the network switch for back haul to all of my cat5 outlets? Modem and Router would be on different floors from network switch? Is so what switch would you recommend.

Re: RBR50

yes, its actually recommended to go Modem----->Router----->switch.

If you try to go modem----switch-----router, you'll have issues and it won't work with a standard modem.

Recommending a switch would need more details. What are you goals with it? Ports needed? Vlan? etc.  more details help.

If its just standard home use, most unmanaged switches work great.

Re: RBR50

I'd look at an unmanaged switch. They're pretty much set and forget and just work. When you start getting into managed switches, there's more setup/configuration.

You can usually find an 8 port unmanaged switch for around $20 if you watch.
