There's a horrible BUG with Orbi RBK53! Needs more FW developing!! 22.214.171.124
This system has a serious problem!!
In order for it to work at FULL bandwidth, you have to start the satellites first, then the router, then the modem (or modem+router at the same time more or less), then plug any NAS.
Once Satellites+Router paired up, and only then, you can plug anything else into the ethernet ports, step by step.
If you plug anything on the ethernet ports first then swtich on the RBK53 units, then system thinks the satellites are connected in Wired mode (maybe it thinks it is trying to emulate an Ethernet backhaul system if it detects an ethernet cable plugged into the ethernet ports as it is powering up?!).
In my particualr case I was plugging in a switch, and three NAS. The switch+NAS1 onto S2, and a second NAS2 to the Router. NAS3 into switch (see detailed schematics of my setup further below)
This was resulting in the internet speed to drop from 350-380Mbps down to an abismall 50Mbps !
I swear, I'm not making this up!
I have tested this 5 times, and spent 2 whole days switching devices on in various different orders, changing settings, 2.4GHz channel settings, MTUs, CTRs and etc all as suggested here in this forum.
But in the end, I reverted back to factory/original settings - i.e. when I finally hit the problem in the way/order the devices were being turned on!
This is seriouly BAD (as no instructions for this behaviour or problem)!
If there is a power cut, for example, then next time these dvices switch on automatically it will leave me with NO internet or wifi bandwidth.
So, Netgear please fix and rectify! My FW is the latest 210 that just came out yesterday 3rd Oct.
Talking of Ethernet, there is also major issues with Data copy transfers onto NAS and other computers. Internet speeds are very decent though (I see no drop now), but the minute a data transfer has to occur, with my 115MB/s capable NAS, these speeds reduce abismally. It takes me over 7-12minutes to copy a 1.7GB file.
My setup (where, '>' = Ethernet cable & '-Wifi-' = Wireless Wifi connection):
Modem > RBR50 > NAS1
Modem > RBR50 -Wifi- RBS501+RBS502
Modem > RBR50 -Wifi- RBS502 > NAS2
Modem > RBR50 -Wifi- RBS502 > Switch > NAS3
NAS1 = Time Capsule1 3TB latest edition
NAS2 = WD MyCloud Ex2 Ultra
NAS3= Time Capsule2 3TB latest edition
I hope it helps anyone! Also, see image below for further comments:
