Two Networks

Sorry for my lack of knowledge...

I’ve got a Cable modem from my ISP and a VPN outer from Sabai (configured for StrongVPN).  My Orbi is usually hooked up to the ISP but when I want it hooked up to the VPN I have to switch the cable.

Im overseas (Brazil) and the house is concrete and huge so I can’t connect to anything without my orbi hooked up.  Should I just get another orbi router or wil that cause conflicts?

I’d leave it always on the VPN but it is occasionally laggy and at the moment Netflix isn’t working through the VPN.

Thanks

Re: Two Networks

No, two Orbi systems will not be recommended. You can add satellites to your existing systems if your not getting enough coverage.

Modem Combo Or use with Router Units:
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem or router, configure the modems/routers DMZ for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem or main host router and connect the Orbi router to the modem or router , configure AP mode on the Orbi router.

Sounds like you have a router system in place and just need good wifi, if so, I would recommend using option #3 for the Orbi system.

What FW is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the ISP modem the NG router is connected too?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials.

So as I understand it you have two internet sources. Orbi does not support 2 internet source, so yes, I think that the best solution for you is to get another Orbi router to connect to the second internet source and have two SSID's one for every internet source. Make sure that each Orbi uses different fronthaul radio bands.
