Unable to connect Google Nest Protect Smoke Detector to Obi 2.4

I am unable to connect my Google Nest Protect Smoke Detector to my Orbi's 2.4 ghz wifi. It says it is connecting in the Nest app, but then just continues attempt to connect for over 15 minutes. I concated the Netgear Customer service, was on the phone with tech support for over an hour and he could not help and said that it would have to be referred to the next level of support. That occurred on May 25. They never contacted my and they closed out my Case ID. I am thinking that I need to reconnect my apple wifi router and toss this piece of crap because I can't get half of the things in my house to connect to the "Orbi Wifi".

Re: Unable to connect Google Nest Protect Smoke Detector to Obi 2.4

Netgear provides a simple mechanism to accomplish this:
Log into the Orbi web interface (http://orbilogin.net)
Navigate to the Advanced Tab, Advanced Settings, Wireless Settings
Uncheck the box, "Broadcast SSID on 5G"
Click "Apply"
All devices that are currently connected to the Orbi will remain connected.
On the smartphone, go to wireless settings and "forget" the Orbi SSID
Search for available WiFi networks. Select the Orbi WiFi. Enter the password. and connect.
If you are curious about whether the smartphone is actually connected at 2.4G, you have to wait a few minutes, because the "Attached Devices" display takes a while to update.
Open the app and set up the 2.4G device.
Once the device is connected and working as it should, reverse the steps.
Check the "Broadcast" box and click "Apply"
"Forget" the Orbi WiFi. Search. Enter password. Connect.

Be aware that there seems to be a time limit with some iOS or Android devices that will connect to the 2.4Ghz radio for a short period of time before changing automatically to the 5Ghz SSID, even though it's been hidden. The SSID is hidden only, thus the signal is still present. So you might want to also change the power output of the 5Ghz radio to 25%. Then connect your mobile device at a distance from the RBR to ensure the mobile phone keeps connected to the 2.4Ghz radio. After you get the IoT device connected, re-configure the system back to where it was.

That is what IT suggested that I do when I called them. I also did it again, per your directions, and none of the Nest Protect Smoke Detectors connected. Any other suggestions???

By chance do you have your prior router or a older wifi router? If you do, you could set this up use same SSID name and PW as on the Orbi, then connect all the NEST devices to this wifi router. Once it's connected, just turn OFF the older router and the NEST should migrate to the Orbi wifi with out any issues.

I still have it. I think I am going to through out the ORBI because it is a POS and use my old Apple WIFI router because it seemed to be a lot less tempromental then ORBI POS... I am done with Netgear products. Will never by again. IT support is worthless and Netgear products are worthless. Biggest waste of time trying to deal with all of this Netgear crap. If I could rate negative stars I absolutely would. Thank you for trying to help, I appreciate it, but sometimes you have to know when to walk away. This is definitely one of those times! I can't wait to leave my scortching review on Amazon about this worthless paperweight, POS ORBI....
