Will adding AC2200 (RBS20) Satelitte impact overall AC3000 (RBK50) backhaul speed
I know there are many discussions on this topic and I am experiencing similar issues to many. I replaced my existing single multi-antenna router with the RBK50 (Router/Satellite) bundle hoping to get better overall wireless coverage in my home. The overall house spans 3 floors is about 4500 sq/ft. I was getting OK coverage but bad throughput on my single router. Now with the new Orbi RBK50, I get great throughput and connections where I can get a WIFI signal. The problem is my WIFI coverage bubble has reduce and now I have a few dark areas with NO WIFI coverage anymore.
I'm located in Canada, so getting a AC300 Satellite is not easy. Go to the US or pay $$$$$$$ or get one shipped to Canada, as NetGear Canada doesn't offer an AC3000 Satellite. But, even when I look at the US cost for an AC3000 Satellite, it's almost as much as the entire RBK50 package (router and satelitte), which makes NO SENSE.
Question: If I add an AC2200 in a STAR topology with the existing RBK50 setup, will that new AC2200 only be running at 867Mb interconnect speeds between itself and the RBK50 router, while my other AC3000 Satellite still has an interconnect speed of 1700MB. Or will all the Satelittes now drop down to he lowest speed int he STAR topology?
The answer will impact with additional Satellite I buy. Not that I'm happy having to buy another one, that's ridiculous, but that's a different issue.
Thanks in advance

Re: Will adding AC2200 (RBS20) Satelitte impact overall AC3000 (RBK50) backhaul speed
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between them to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. I have a orbi at 40 feet distance with just 1 satellite and it works well with great coverage in a 5000sq ft home.
I know you can mix RBS models. I believe the back would not be effected.

Re: Will adding AC2200 (RBS20) Satelitte impact overall AC3000 (RBK50) backhaul speed
The house is well covered, for the most part. I'm trying to get out to the front of the garage (which is about 30 feet) from main router and I sometimes see the WIFI once in a while. It's off more than it's on, so I must be right at the max limit ditance from the Router. That's why I am trying to add another Satelitte to gain that 10-15 feet, but I don't want to spend another $300/US for an AC300 Satelitte if I don't need to. I don't need supper fast throughput out there, but I don't want to introduce a slower Satelittle in the Mesh either that might cause everything else to slow down.
So if I can put a cheaper Satelitte for the Gargare and not slow things down, I will.
That's the questions: Can I put both AC3000 and AC2200 Satelittes on the same router in a STAR and not impact each other

Were you able to figure out if this will limit your whole network band to 866?
Thanks,
Vic

Re: Will adding AC2200 (RBS20) Satelitte impact overall AC3000 (RBK50) backhaul speed
Yes he can @FURRYe38 , with the caveat that the backhaul speed will be cut in half. Network performance is only as good as the weakest link on the network. So adding an AC2200 to an AC3000 will reduce the backhaul speed 1733Mbps to 833Mbps; and that will slow down the entire network.
I'm personally in the exact same situation; and inasmuch as I want to add another RBS50 to my RBK50 Orbi system, I am offended by Netgear's ridiculous pricing.

You're right on! This means that the whole network will likely benefit from an extended range, but the backhaul throughput will be halved.

Re: Will adding AC2200 (RBS20) Satelitte impact overall AC3000 (RBK50) backhaul speed
There is another way to look at this. "Will there be an observable difference in performance?" Suppose the ISP connection is 100mb and most usage is for web browsing, email, IoT devices, etc. Devices on that link that originally had a bandwidth of 1733 and has now dropped to 833 may notice no difference at all. The forum has plenty of members who report excellent WiFi across 5,000 sq. ft. houses with the RBR40, which has a top speed of 833.

My CBK40 system does great with in my 5000sq ft home. Just 1 RBS too.

Re: Will adding AC2200 (RBS20) Satelitte impact overall AC3000 (RBK50) backhaul speed
You are both correct; and depending on one's needs and the geometry and constuction of the networking area, a lower reach might do just well. But bearing in mind the question asked, the answer remains the same: YES, there will be a performance hit on the backhault. As to whether or not people need AC3000 coverage and throughput, well that's up to each user to assess, isn't it.

Yeppers.
Good Luck.
