how to turn of 5GHX radio on the Orbi router

I am looking to turn off the 5ghz on the Orbi RBR50 and RBS50, is there a way to do this? I have some in home automation devices that can only use 2.4ghz singal and I need to be able to turn off the 5ghz in order to reconnect them.

You do?  Is that an experimental result, or something you read
somewhere?  If these (unspecified) devices are 2.4GHz only, then why
should a 5GHz signal bother them?

Around here, I a handful of Orvibo S20 power sockets which are
2.4GHz-only, and they seem entirely unaffected by my 5GHz wireless
stuff.

The manufacturer told me they will not work on 5ghz freqency and in order to set them up my phone automatically selects 5ghz and there is no other way to connect them so I need to be able to turn it off until I can connect then then I can turn it back on

Ok, but that does not imply that a 5GHz signal from your router will
cause trouble.

I now know nothing about even more things, including: what your "some
in home automation devices" are, who made them ("The manufacturer"),
what your "my phone" is, how you're supposed to persuade these gizmos to
connect to your wireless network using your "my phone", and, most of
all, how a 5GHz signal will cause trouble when you try to use a 2.4GHz
gizmo.

   As I said, I have a bunch of 2.4GHz-only Internet-of-Junk devices,
and the 5GHz signal from my router has never stopped me from configuring
them or from using them, once configured.  But, with no actual
information on any of your stuff, there's not much specific info I can
provide on any of it.

I took a quick look at the User Manual for an RBR50, and didn't see
the control which appears on many other (non-ORBI) Netgear routers,
namely: ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Wireless Settings : [ ] Enable
Wireless Router Radio (one for "(2.4GHz b/g/n)", one for "(5GHz
a/n/ac)").  So, I don't know how to disable your 5GHz radio.  I also
don't see why you would need to, any more that you'd need to shut down
all the FM radio stations in your neighborhood when you wanted to tune
in an AM/MW station.

My advice would be to run the experiment, and follow the standard
gizmo-configuration procedure (wherever that might be written down), and
see what, if anything, actually goes wrong.  The only problem I can
imagine with that would be if your phone needs to talk directly to the
gizmo itself (which is done in one of the common gizmo-configuration
schemes), _and_ if your "my phone" is actually unable to communicate
with a 2.4GHz wireless access point.  (And, if that were true, then
switching off the only 5GHz radio around would seem to be an even worse
idea.)

Re: how to turn of 5GHX radio on the Orbi router

well, despite you “useful “ comments, I figured it out. The iPhone connection is 5g by default and therefore can’t connect to the smart switch ( which only communicates at 2.4) hence the reason I wanted to turn off the 5ghz radio(temporarily) however I found that older iPhones (6) connect at 2.4ghz once I re downloaded the app on the older phone- I could connect to the device (smart switch) configure it and get it on the network as a 2.4 ghz device .

This is a forum for people looking for ideas to help when something isn’t listed in a tech doc or manual- it would be nice when posting comments if you actually post something useful and not condescending- a simple “this will work “ or try doing this”. Would suffice- otherwise why post anything at all....

You might get better answers if you put your questions in the appropriate section of this user-to-user self-support forum:

Let's review.  You began by asking how to disable the 5GHz radio in
your router, so that you could configure some (still-unidentified) IoJ
gizmo, using some (still-unidentified) app, on some (still-unidentified)
phone.

I suggested that this was not necessary.  So far as I can tell from
your "I figured it out" message, this was correct.  I also suggested
that you forget about that idea, and "follow the standard
gizmo-configuration procedure", which you apparently did, with some
success.

I'm very sorry if you found "condescending", my futile attempts to
elicit _any_ useful information at all about what you were doing and
with what you were doing it.  Sadly, the weakness of my psychic powers
makes it difficult to give detailed "this will work" or "try doing this"
advice based on descriptions like "some in home automation devices",
"The manufacturer", "the app", and "my phone".

Considering that you provided neither clay nor straw, it seems to me
unrealistic to expect not only a load of bricks, but also to get a
stylish parasol built from them.  All in all, I see little reason for
you to complain about the advice which you got.

When asking for free advice from volunteers, it would be courteous if
the questioner provided some useful information, either spontaneously,
or when asked specifically for it.  If you think that the answers you
got were less than satisfactory, then please try to imagine what it's
like for anyone who might try to be helpful in the face of an
information-free problem report which begins by asking how to implement
some misguided non-solution to the problem, rather than providing any
useful information about the situation.

> The iPhone connection is 5g by default [...]

I suppose that "The iPhone" is a little better than "my phone".  And,
if Apple made only one model of iPhone, then perhaps I could have
gleaned some useful info from that, if it had appeared some messages
earlier.  But they don't, and it didn't.

> [...] hence the reason I wanted to turn off the 5ghz radio(temporarily)

Still not necessary, as I suggested originally.  (Did you ever do
that?  Did it help?)

> 1 ) Your Orbi must be setup to broadcast one SSIDs per Band, eg,.
> ketchumr-2.4G on the 2.4G Band & ketchumr-5G on the 5G Band.

Not really.  The whole gizmo-configuration procedure can be handled
between the gizmo and the phone/tablet which hosts "the app".  The
router is not involved in this operation; the gizmo operates its own
little (2.4GHz) wireless network, and the phone/tablet+app connects to

that.

Once the user has used the app to transfer the router's normal
wireless credentials to the gizmo, it is restored to its normal mode,
and it connects to the router's wireless network.  At that time, the
2.4GHz-only gizmo will see only the 2.4GHz radio in the router, and the
SSID of any 5GHz radio will be of no interest to the gizmo, because IT'S
A 2.4GHz-ONLY GIZMO!!!  I don't know which part of "2.4GHz-only" is the
tricky part.

Correct. I asked a simple question. I shouldn’t need to explain why a simple yes you can and here’s how - or alternatively no you can’t would suffice. Your reasoning for not needing to is immaterial. And personally I’m not offended- you are obviously just a **bleep**.

Yes, and then went on to explain why:

Perhaps you're right.  Perhaps I should have ignored your stated
intent, and let you waste your time chasing the answer to your simple
question, instead of trying to provide any useful guidance toward what
seemed to be your actual goal, which I assumed to be: getting your
(still unspecified) IoJ gizmo configured.

> [...] Your reasoning for not needing to is immaterial. [...]

This must be some new meaning for "immaterial".

> [...] you are obviously just a **bleep**.

Thank you for your carefully considered evaluation.  Should you ever
return with a similarly misguided question, I'll try to be less helpful.
