iOS not showing satellite

Hi,

Hey team Netgear, and team community you all rock !. for years I wanted wire backhaul on the orbi and "whoe Hoe" its working. So big Thanks !!!.

With very low importance I wanted to share that after setting up a wired satellite station. The station shows up in the webportal and the satellite station is operating as expected, however the iOS app keeps showing there are 0 satellite stations connected.

I rebooted everything but this keep persisting.

Cheers,

...........

So the printouts and logs show that the router sees the satellite but there is no where that confirms that it's wired. Let's try the following change please, try the following telnet commands:

  • config set satellite1="A0:04:60:17:11:CC 10.0.10.161 RBS50 4PN1685T03620 -100 V2.3.0.32 A0:04:60:17:13:2A wired 1 -100"
  • config commit

After this check the attached devices in the web GUI and the Orbi app.

Re: iOS not showing satellite

This might be one of the issues fixed in the latest Orbi sw 2.3.0.32. Have you updated to that sw yet? 🙂

Re: iOS not showing satellite

What do you see when clicking on Network Map in the app? Is the Satellite missing also there?

Re: iOS not showing satellite

  1. What is the version of the IOS app? I have 2.2.13.22
  2. What happens if you pull down the Network Map to make it force update?
  3. Have you tried to delete the app and install it again?

Re: iOS not showing satellite

Also 2.2.13.22

Only thing I didn’t try yet is reinstalling the app.

I did notice that the satellite shows up in the device list

Re: iOS not showing satellite

I tried 2 things,

first i I checked if the satellite showed up when I used the Orbi app on my iPad

second I deleted the app, rebooted the phone, downloaded and reinstalled the app

still no satellite.

the one thing that is maybe special. I have the lan connected to the router station on port 1 the yellow port and then I route the 4th port thru its own separate Vlan back to the office to the satellite station

Re: iOS not showing satellite

This is likely the reason why the app gets confused then!
I didn’t get though how you set up your vlans in this case. Can you please make a simple sketch of the network.

Re: iOS not showing satellite

Hmm, well this setup is kind of like running a separate cable between the Router and the satellite but then with some Vlans, Please C attached JPG. for sketch.

When I had everything in the same LAN, I could not get the Satellite to talk to the router at all. It would boot, then turn blue (good connection) then turn off, but it would not show up in the webportal and would not let me connect.

Re: iOS not showing satellite

Thanks for sharing the layouts.

- I guess that you have Orbi in AP mode, right? The fact that you're passing Vlan1 to the LAN means that you want the PfSense router to be the network Router.

- Otherwise, for me the setup looks ok, the wiered thing is that you're saying that the web GUI shows the Satellite as wired Satellite on top of the Attached Devices as below but the Orbi app shows the Satellite as "attached device", right? Please confirm

Namnlöst.png

- Please print the following parameters that will show what information the router has about your satellites:

  1. Enable telnet on the router (from the /debug.htm page of the web interface)
  2. telnet to router
  3. After loggin in, run the following print comands on the command line:
    1. root@RBR50:/# nvram show | grep sate_default_name[0-9]
    2. root@RBR50:/# config get satellite_online_num
    3. root@RBR50:/# nvram show | grep satellite[1-9]
    4. root@RBR50:/# nvram show | grep sate[1-3]
    5.  root@RBR50:/# nvram show | grep 'orbi_dev_name[1-3]='
    6. root@RBR50:~# cat /var/current_satellite_list

    7. root@RBR50:~# cat satellite_mac_list

- It will be also good to see what Orbi Router sends to the Orbi app app to find out if it's Orbi that sends the wrong information or the app is the one incorrectly interpreting the information. Please do the following:

  • Close the Orbi app in your phone
  • Go to the orbilogin.com/debug.htm page and enable "Save SOAP log between APP and Router".
  • Click on "Start Capture"
  • Open the app on your phone and click to open the network map
  • Go back to the debug.htm page and click on "Save Debug Log"
  • Save the zip file in the debug page
  • Open the saved Zipped file. The following 2 files contain log of events interchanged between Orbi and the app:

large.png

  • Open the files and search for the satellite name.

Re: iOS not showing satellite

Working on the telnet .......

Yes PfSense is router, Yes AP mode

Yes satellite shows up in webportal C attached JPG.

And yes correct the Ios app Shows No Satellite connected in the home page layout or the network Map Layout but when you navigate to Device List the Orbi Satellite is one of the devices with a tag wired.

Re: iOS not showing satellite

Did the iOS Debug.

You asked for 2 Files

SoapApp. - See Attached.

Soap_Agent - The same 2 lines get repeated.

{2019-03-02 21:11:32}[agent.c:1112] config check start, config is satellite, delimiters is
{2019-03-02 21:11:32}[agent.c:1116] config satellite1 is A0:04:60:17:11:CC 10.0.10.161 RBS50 4PN1685T03620 -100 V2.3.0.32 0 0 0 0 0

You will get file if you have the "Save SOAP log between APP and Router" ticked in the debug page as follows:

Namnlöst.png

@DirkO wrote:

Seems that the router is sending the wrong info to the app. In my case I get the following:

{2019-02-28 06:19:51}[agent.c:1116] config satellite1 is 78:C2:94:B5:06:17 192.168.1.2 RBS50 5C81875801359 -97 V2.3.0.32 1 78:C2:94:BA:08:CC wired 1 -97

So it seems that -somehow- the router is not completely recognizing the satellite as wired satellite to the router.

The 5 zeros in your printout should be the status of the satellite's connection to the router as you can see in my printout.

Can you please get the telnet command printouts as well.

Re: iOS not showing satellite

Hey so just a question.....

Now you showed me where the Jumbo frame button is that I have been looking for for Years now. I had to turn it on, So while going to the Satellite debug page I was disappointed I can not turn on Jumbo frames for the Satellite LAN ports but I also noticed that:

Allow external IPv6 hosts ping internal IPv6 hosts is checked

So I don't know how important this is but I have Ipv6 Blocked in PfSense on the network.

  • config commit

After this check the attached devices in the web GUI and the Orbi app.

Re: iOS not showing satellite

Same here!  IOS Orbi app showing no satellites, but login to router via browser shows both satellites connected.  Satellites LED also off, indicating a good connection.
