can i connect a WNDR3400v3 router to an orbi AC2200 to provide an isolated network for other hardware?

Yes you can. Would need to set the 3400 up for a different IP address, 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.34.1.
Are you planning on running wifi on the 3400 as well?

no, i don't use the wifi in the 3400.
i have fairly small area [2000 sqft]. do i need just the ac2200 or the rbk30 kit?
