Re: orbi rbk43s does not broadcast 5ghz

Netgear provides a simple mechanism to accomplish this:
Log into the Orbi web interface (http://orbilogin.net)
Navigate to the Advanced Tab, Advanced Settings, Wireless Settings
Uncheck the box, "Broadcast SSID on 5G"
Click "Apply"
All devices that are currently connected to the Orbi will remain connected.
On the smartphone, go to wireless settings and "forget" the Orbi SSID
Search for available WiFi networks. Select the Orbi WiFi. Enter the password. and connect.
If you are curious about whether the smartphone is actually connected at 2.4G, you have to wait a few minutes, because the "Attached Devices" display takes a while to update.
Open the app and set up the 2.4G device.
Once the device is connected and working as it should, reverse the steps.
Check the "Broadcast" box and click "Apply"
"Forget" the Orbi WiFi. Search. Enter password. Connect.

Be aware that there seems to be a time limit with some iOS or Android devices that will connect to the 2.4Ghz radio for a short period of time before changing automatically to the 5Ghz SSID, even though it's been hidden. The SSID is hidden only, thus the signal is still present. So you might want to also change the power output of the 5Ghz radio to 25%. Then connect your mobile device at a distance from the RBR to ensure the mobile phone keeps connected to the 2.4Ghz radio. After you get the IoT device connected, re-configure the system back to where it was.

Re: orbi rbk43s does not broadcast 5ghz

What Firmware version is currently loaded?

How are you determining that your not seeing the 5Ghz radio? Do you have a wifi analyzer loaded on a pad or PC?

What mfr and model wifi device are you using?

Orib has just 1 SSID name for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios.

Re: orbi rbk43s does not broadcast 5ghz

Does the mobile device show a frequency next to the SSID name?

Be sure to try a different device.

What device are you using?

You can try updating the system to v16 and see if this changes anything.

Re: orbi rbk43s does not broadcast 5ghz

yes, when i search networks from a mobile device i only see "a name 2.4ghz" and i dont see "a name 5ghz. but in my orbi mobile application i see things connected to 2.4 and 5 ghz and wired. i want the ability to connect from my iphone to either 2.4 or 5ghz. I could swear when i bought the orbi i was able to do this.

Re: orbi rbk43s does not broadcast 5ghz

What mfr and model# device are you using? You sure this devices supports 5Ghz?

ALL orbi systems have 1, just 1 SSID name for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios. They are not separable officaly by NG thus NG doesn't have this feature in the routers web page. It's up to devices to connect to either frequency if they a dual band supporting.

If your Orbi app is seeing things connected on 5Ghz then the 5Ghz radio is probably working on the Orbi system.

Re: orbi rbk43s does not broadcast 5ghz

ok, i understand the Orbi only will broadcast one name, i guess i renamed it to the "a name 2.4ghz". and a mobile device will connect to that name and then will determine to use the 2.4 or 5 ghz frequency. so, what is the best way to setup an application on your mobile device that tells you to connect to the same network as the device you are setting up? such as an arlo camera. in my orbi application the arlo is connected to 5ghz but my phone is connecting to 2.4 ghz. the arlo application says i need to be on the same frequency to set up.
