port forwarding won't work on orbi RBR50

I am unable to open ports on my network. I'm trying to set up some game servers and nothing never works and when testing the ports on https://canyouseeme.org/, they always appear closed  Can someone please help?

i tierd reading and following a similar Discussion on the furom which is marked solved but it still won't work for me.

My setup is as follows:

Orbi RBR50 wifi router, Firmware: V2.7.3.22

the orbi is used as a router no modem with a fiber media converter connected  to the orbi.

When testing to see if ports are open using https://canyouseeme.org/, all ports are closed.

I was trying to get a Minecraft, the forest server setup on one computer, but am still running into the port forwarding issue.

On that Windows 10 computer I have done the following:

  • disabled Windows Defender Firewall
  • Set networking location to Private
  • Disabled all antivirus Software
  • turning on and off the server to see if it's needed to be active for the ports to show as open

Again, Testing with https://canyouseeme.org/, all ports are closed.

i have no idea what else i can try nothing seem to work,Any help would be appreciated.

Re: port forwarding won't work on orbi RBR50

Your intuition is correct that the Windows computer must be ready to accept connections from the Internet for port forwarding to work.

When the Orbi forwards a port, it does not respond to the incoming connection request.  That is the job of the device that packets are forwarded to.  I also like to verify port status with Gibson Research "Shields Up!", which distinguishes between Closed and Stealth.

I suggest verifying that this app is set up in the Firewall to accept both private and public connections and test it from a computer on the same network.  Then try https://canyouseeme.org/

It sounds like you've already done the Windows networking things per the port forwarding community faq: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-WiFi-6-AX-and-WiFi-6E-AXE/Community-FAQ-My-Orbi-port-forwardin...

What you describe sounds correct.  Exactly which port(s) are you trying to forward?  Can you attach screenshots of the Orbi port forwarding to your Windows IP address and also of the Windows private network settings?  I can't think of anything else that could be wrong.

Re: port forwarding won't work on orbi RBR50

Sure thing, I'm attaching a picture of all the settings.
The ports I actually need are:8766,27015,27016.
I've opened more because of mixed sources telling me I need to open more but still it won't help.
The internal ip I'm using is the one as the computer I'm testing this on.

Re: port forwarding won't work on orbi RBR50

if you can elaborate please on what i need to do. I've done the testing on the link you provide for the common ports and all the service ports all of them showed up as stealth, I'm not really sure what that means or if it's even correct.

Re: port forwarding won't work on orbi RBR50

Your screenshot looks fine.Let's try port forwarding only 8766 to start with, please update the setting to only specify that one port.  Then go to https://canyouseeme.org/ and tell us what it says for 8766.  Also verify that what it displays for "Your IP" matches http://orbilogin.com  Advanced tab's "Internet Port / IP Address" (it should).

Are you running any other Norton or MacAfee products on your Windows machine?   Sometimes the antivirus software might come along with a firewall.

Just to confirm (you already said you did this) - Press the Win key, type and search for "network status".  Select the first result and verify there is only one active network and it is labeled as "Private network".  Is your Windows host only connected by LAN or Wi-fi, not both?

Re: port forwarding won't work on orbi RBR50

umm there's seem to be a mismatch between what is shown to be my ip on https://www.canyouseeme.org and my actual ip on the router page.

I tried setting to just one port and still it said closed.

this ip not showing anywhere on my router page.

We can't see the image immediately unless you attach it vs. insert in-line.  Can you just type in the IP address shown by canyouseeme and what your Orbi says?

It sounds like you may have Double NAT and that would explain why port forwarding doesn't work (it needs to be forwarded past 2 hops).  What exactly is the Orbi connected to upstream (make and model of device please)?  It may be a router vs. a straight modem, in which case putting it in bridge mode would help.

That image was marked Rejected, which is why is does not appear.

(My guess is that a moderator felt that publishing a public IP address is risky behavior.)
