Can’t update firmware on GS108Tv2 (chat support agent stumped, too)
I have a GS108Tv2 with very outdated firmware. It is on Version 5.4.2.13, which goes back to at least 2014. I would like to get it up to 5.4.2.36, which is only two years old.
I have gone through these steps (doing this from memory, because I had to take the switch out of service, before I have time to try some other things).
- I have uploaded to the switch (the switch’s terminology is “download”) via the HTTP method—I don’t have TFTP server software on my MacBook Pro to the Image2 location an .stk file contains the 5.4.2.36 update. This is slow. It required for the downloaded file names to be shortened, because there appears to be a restriction on the length of the file name. I made it “5.4.2.36.stk”.
I named that image “Firmware 5.4.2.36.” The screenshot is from an attempt with a different downloaded version.
I then tried to activate Image2 by clicking the “Activate Image” checkbox and hitting the “Apply” button. This is the result: “Error! Failed to activate the image. Backup image already configured. Can't be modified.”
Trying to work this out with a chat support agent led nowhere. It did give me confirmation that I was trying to do it the right way.
Has anyone encountered this and found a workaround? A workaround cannot involve using TFTP, because I don’t have that capability.

Re: Can’t update firmware on GS108Tv2 (chat support agent stumped, too)
I myself got it working eventually, but I was going back and forth on this and that so many times that I would not be able to reproduce, what I ended up having to do to accomplish the task.
